First things first: this accommodation is great and the host family one of the nicest experiences we had on the island. First about the accommodation: it is big, it is neat and it is located in the middle of a natural paradise. Essentially, the surroundings are a mixture of jungle and a small plantation run by the host family. Essentially, all the things you dream of grow there: cocoa, avocados, coffee, bananas, manioc, vanilla and many other things. The nice thing is that you can not only look at all these fruits and plants, but also get them as a gift from the host family for breakfast and other occasions. But not only the plants are a dream, but also the wildlife: Because the accommodation is about 20 minutes by foot or 10 minutes by car from the village, you can watch and listen to all kinds of heavenly animals (especially birds) from the terrace. Especially sitting on the terrace at dusk and listening to the concert of bird songs is a very special experience. (I'm writing about the location precisely because the Google position on Google maps makes it look like the accommodation is still in the village, but it's not, and that makes it even more exclusive and special, especially a true nature experience). As if all this wasn't great enough: about 20 minutes away on foot is an incredibly beautiful and lonely beach. It's so lonely that you're almost glad that a fisherman comes by every now and then. Otherwise, you are there alone with nature and insanely beautiful views. A dream. One more note about the host family. As already written - this family was one of the most beautiful encounters for us on the island. Interesting conversations, always available for questions or requests and so incredibly kind. So we could learn a lot about life on the island and nature and all the things that grow in the garden. To harvest cacao ourselves, to learn about the cultivation of vanilla - just great. Unforgettable also the coffee that the hostess made for us every morning. Coffee from the garden in front of the terrace - mind you. Simply stunning - as was the dinner. The hosts offer to cook for you. Because we didn't feel like driving in the evening, we tried the food and after that we had something cooked for us every night and experienced an incredible culinary journey through the cuisine of Principe. Finally, a few thoughts on the question of mobility, because it has also moved us in advance, and we found little information about it. Basically, I would say the following. Here you can be fine with or without cars, more important is how you want to spend your time. We had a car, but because we liked the location, the exclusivity of the accommodation, the food and the beach so much, we did not really need the car. Also because we had already been elsewhere on the island for almost a week, and had discovered a lot. Therefore, my recommendation: If no car, then on the transfer to the accommodation briefly make a stop in the capital and buy everything important (especially drinking water) and enjoy the peace and deceleration - an the great dinners. If car, then also take into account that you absolutely need a good jeep and daily driving the route (Wherever) because of the roads is somewhat exhausting. Still on the question of car rental. The wonderful host had arranged for us a contact named Paulino, who absolutely reliably organized a jeep rental for us and also the transfers and was always responsive in case of inquiries or changes of date for the return. Highly recommended. After all - this whole experience in roca do Lucindo was the best for us...
Read moreLa Roça do Lucindo is a beautiful house nested in a peaceful and retreated location. You are surrounded with trees, luxurious forest, palm trees, flowers and animals ! The balcony and view are splendid. The beach is also beautiful. The interior is comfortable (sheets and towels are very clean) and quite practical even though you must not be afraid of small beasts such as spiders and other local wildlife ;-) Lucindo helped us on various points and even brought us delicious fruits on the first and last morning (pineapple, papaya and coconut) : a real pleasure ! Note that you must have a solid car and a good driver because the route is quite adventurous, especially in the wet season… also it is quite far away from other places you might want to visit so depending on your plans, take the distances into consideration. Also, there was no...
