The George F.L. Charles Airport in Castries the Capital city of St. Lucia is one of Airports on the Island with the International Airport being some distance away in the South. The convenience of this Airport cannot be underestimated it being practically in the center of activity. Admittedly smaller than the International Airport it is by no means an Airstrip (more akin to a Domestic Airport in larger jurisdictions) and with the recent extension of the Runway, smaller jets are now being accommodated.
One Can literally take a few steps from the George F.L. Charles Airport and be at a quite scenic white sand beach. Having personally used the Airport for almost 30 years, I have seen vast improvements in security and efficiency at the airport. When travelling one does not get the feeling of being at a second rate airport and I sometimes forget about the other airport location.
I would recommend making the George F.L. Charles Airport part of your travel itinerary owing to its proximity to the City Center and also to the Northern portion of the Island where there are more...
Read moreThe safety and security of every country starts with immigration and customs. So I would not fault the staff I encountered for the resolute and focus presence at the airport today, May 2nd. However, coming from a country where hospitality is prominent, I wasn't quite pleased with the lack of pleasantries at this airport. But when your country was chosen from many as the country of choice to visit for vacation or to attend an event like the Jazz Music Festival, it wouldn't hurt or affect the job if the staff express pleasantries or some politeness. I've landed here in transit many times before, but this was my first visiting Saint Lucia for vacation purposes. This has not affected my first few hours of being here. The staff at the hotel where I am at is awesome and...
Read moreBest airport bar ever! Right across the street 😉. You can get breakfast, lunch, diner, multiple beers whatever you like.
However they are organized as ... My flight was cancelled cause of a strike by pilots. I paid almost 400 US$ for a flight with Air Antilles to Barbados. How is this possible considering the costs? Avoid Air Antilles! Meanwhile I have spent 2 days at the airport, looking for a replacement flight. At the counter they do an effort for sure, but in the end they are just repeating phrases like "take a seat and i will get to you" (they never did) or "we call you as soon as the time is fixed" (never happened).
In conclusion don't expect anything. Come down, get to the bar across...
