The beautiful sandy beaches are still there and will have plenty of football matches to watch. It's bit of a tourist trap with accommodation too expensive for what's generally on offer. I always loved staying at Sobo Bade but the old Haitian actor who had the original vision sadly passed a few years ago (2022) and they want $50 a night for a small dingy room - go next door or up the road as there's much better places available. Maybe I'm just a bit older or more cynical but I think the place has lost its magic and I'm not sure I would come back. (visited beginning of October which is outside of the...

I really liked Toubab Dialaw. I did not want to stay in Dakar, since I don't like being in large cities. It was also a short ride to the modern airport and right on the beach. It seemed very safe. I didn't run into any other Americans, so that was a bonus for me. There were Europeans in town. The locals were friendly and hospitable. I enjoyed the Airbnb that I stayed at. It had a splendid view of the Atlantic and I could hear the waves...

That's where I have my piece of land. Though our work place is Thiès, it's only about 30 km from there, and I can't wait to start building a little house for my retirement :-) I can recommend the whole coast for swimming and relaxing from there down to Joal, but stay off Saly-Portudal. It's a rip off and has nothing to do with Senegal and...
