🌳🌳 History ( excerpts from Wikipedia) ☘️🔶️ The Japanese Cemetery Park ( 日本人墓地公圆 ) is a Japanese cemetery and garden park in Yio Chu Kang area, Singapore (✔️ Chuan Hoe Avenue)
🟨 It is the largest Japanese cemetery in Southeast Asia at 29,359 square metres, consisting of 910 tombstones that contain the remains of members of the Japanese community in Singapore, including young Japanese courtesans, civilians, soldiers and convicted war criminals executed in Changi Prison.
🟫 It was gazetted as a memorial park by the Singapore government in 1987. 🌳🌳 My husband and I came to this garden cemetery park on 24th Sept 2024 Tues at abt 5pm. 🟦 The cemetery park is well maintained by an Indian worker cum gardener. We saw him pulling out weeds on the grass plains.
🟧 The entire premises of the cemetery /garden park is landscaped beautifully with well-manicured plots of green verdant grass plains.
🌳🌳 There are 2 rows of cement paths ( both left and right) that leads to trellis pathways overgrowing with bougainvillea flowers that sprouts in pink, orange and red blooms.
🟦 The tombstones hails from late 1800s onwards, all the way to 1940s and up till 1973. In 1973, the Singapore Government closed this Japanese cemetery and no more burials were allowed.
🌳🌿 The park cemetery closes at 7 pm. We made a small donation to the donation box in front of the prayer house. 🙏🏻 I am familiar with Japanese customs...

On top of the area being super clean, do slow down and admire the stories, eulogy that this place has got to offer. Not a very big area, good for walking through while being at peace with the surroundings. For one, tranquility is definitely something u can feel.

Read moreWhile usually cemeteries are seen as somber , even scarier places , this cemetery invites people and strangers with its beauty and spreads happiness. The beautiful bougainvillea arches on all 3 sides of the park are in full bloom even in July-August, as opposed to just spring. And it’s not just some spots, the entire archway is fully blooming. The place is only 5-7 mins walk from the bustop. There were hardly 1-2 other families/couples when we went here last weekend. It’s peaceful, not a mainstream touristy spot and wonderful for a walk and many IG worthy shorts as you can see from our pics. Also the yellow -orange flowers were in full bloom too at certain other parts...
