Gerlachov Peak is the highest summit in Slovakia and the highest summit of High Tatras and the whole Carpathians! Climbing it is a significant mountaineering feat. There are three usual climbing routes, all starting from the valley to the east: Velicka / Normal route, The Gypsy route with a ferrata, and Martinovka or Martin's route. The descend is usually steep down through Batizovska proba and lasts for ~2 hours to get to the lake. The ascent is permitted only with a certified mountain guide. I climbed the normal route and it took me 3.5 hours from Sliezsky dom. It is the least technically demanding but still complicated (T4) and exhausting route with many exposed segments requiring the use of arms. Reminded me of Grossglockner. Once up there it feels magnificent... The peak itself is a boulder with a small metal cross and the views are open in all directions so that one can adore the rugged beauty of The Tatras, Slovak plains to the south and Polish flatlands to the north.

Ona przychodzi chytrze, Bez ostrzeżeń i gróźb, Krzyczy pękniętą liną, Kamieniem zerwanym spod stóp, Spod stóp. ......

Country's Highest Point and part of the High Tatras at approximately 2.678m above sea level the Gerlahovsky Peak leaves me with Magic every time I visit it. As unusual is the Existence of High Tatras for the vast plain Lands of the Central Europe, it is, also extremely impressive the High Altitude they reach mostly in parts of Slovakia and Poland as high as 2.500m. Somebody should find on his own what the Gerlahovsky Peak...
