Muizenberg Cave is much bigger than the photographs suggest and it can be accessed from either the Muizenberg side (Bailey’s Kloof or Peck’s Valley) or the Silvermine side from Gate 2. To be fair, it’s easier via the Silvermine side at about 1 hour, while from the Muizenberg side, it will take around 2 hours for the moderately fit. The cave is pretty impressive and very quiet once you get inside. Exercise caution as there are signs of unusual habitation in the cave, but it’s a treat to reach it. Be aware that the routes on this part of the mountain don’t have a lot of shade so it gets pretty hot in summer.

When you start to hike from Muizenberg the way up was very steep. Wear Good shoes bring a jacket, hat and sunscreen at the same time. I would wear long trousers as you touch the plants constantly. J personally found the cave not so stunning but the hike was nice.

Nice cave for easy family exploring. Pity about the graffiti and broken glass bottles everywhere though. Easy to find if you stay on pathways.

Exceptionally stunning scenic trail with plenty of flora and fynbos to admire. The view from the top is spectacular as you can see over Marina da Gama, over Muizenberg Beach, James Beach as well as Fish Hoek and all the way to Simon's Town. There are a series of caves if you are adventurous and daring enough to...
