Our cat one evening decided to bring a little creature into the house. It was making a strange squeeking sound and first though it was a bat. Eventually we got the creature to realise it was a baby mole. It did not even have fur on it as yet. It had a pucture wound but was breathing and moving. This was late at night and was not able to get hold of anyone so we googled what we could to keep it alive until the morning when we were able to contact a vet etc. We phoned our local vet to be given the number of Friends of Free Wildlife. I phoned and they told us to bring it to them straight away and one of their staff members will be there to assist straight away. We drove to Kyalami to be helped by a very friendly staff member. He took the baby mole straight away as he said was quite dehydrated already. He came back to tell us that he gave it an injection etc and that he will keep us informed how it is doing etc. We have been kept in the loop from day one. I get whatspp videos and images of the little mole growing and progressing. It is amazing. Thank you so much for helping us and its wonderful to see how knowledgable and caring the staff are for these animals that live in Johannesburg that need help when us humans are not able to or do not know how. Please donate to this center they are fanstastic and do an...
Read moreOne of the stray cats caught a mourning dove; it lost lots of feathers on its tail and an injury on one side of its wings. I took care of the bird for 2 days, but since I had to go abroad, I was not able to take care of the bird, and I'm sure I can't let it go with such conditions; it might not be able to fly properly and get its own food 🥺😢.
So I restlessly looked for a wildlife animal sanctuary that could help me take care of the birds, and I have found this place. I contacted Margi, and she allowed me to bring the bird to Friends of Free Wildlife. I've met Janet there and told her about the condition I'm facing. I'm so glad that after a few weeks, I've got news that the condition of the bird went well and it got released into the wild. Thank you so much. I really appreciate the help and the quick responses in those...
Read moreI am moved to tears today. I called Margi with very badly injured Dove in the garden. Helpful, is a small word. Upon her prompt guidance we me and my Jai, rushed bird to Bryanstan Avian, Margi said vet will provide immediate support she will get him later. He was cold not likely to make it. By afternoon Margi gave me all updates, he is still alive very weak! I am so moved by these people who will help those that cannot help themselves and asked nothing in return. In today's world where everything is transactional. They say that love does not exist in the world. But here it is. My...
