This is probably the most awe-inspiring sight I have seen in my life. When I was a lot younger and staying in Bloemfontein I decided to go and look at this waterfall. I picked up a hitchhiker on the way there, and he said he knew how to get there and would show me part of the way.
I don't think that he showed me the official way, because I had to crawl over some rocks and could eventually see the water tumbling down. I then also saw a viewing platform some way down.
What is most impressive is the sound made by the waterfall. I can only approximate it to a rock crusher with extra bass and extreme volume. One can feel the vibration in the rocks and hear it from a long distance away.
I lay there, watching, for at least an hour, and was not really conscious of time passing.
I only got back to Bloemfontein on the next day, having delivered the hitchhiker to his kraal and sleeping in my car.
If you're in South Africa, make an effort to see this place if at all possible. You will not be...
Read moreVery sad place. Was camping. No failitues working, treated as a imbecile when complaining , nothing in site ablutions working. Decks for visitors to the falls in bad need of repair. Again falls on deaf ears. Completely opposite to what we experienced in the camps in the Kalagadi. SA parks do you wonder why no one comes to Augrabies. Take a walk around and try for a nature's call in one of the camping ablutions, you may get to know your camp. Other thing, get control of the Monkees you may also be surprised that people will start coming again no one wants to be robbed on a continuous basis. Staff are terrible treat you...
