I had stayed at Inzalo Lodge over the Christmas Days in 2024 and was overwhelmed. The festivities and hospitality at the lodge were beautiful - I almost forgot I am not home with friends and family, as they were my family.
The tents are also superb - clean and like new. Each tent has its own porch and a plunge pool for a cool dip after a hot safari. Even if you are not interested in taking a dip in the pool you will be fascinated by just looking at the nature and its inhabitants. Each tent also got a little "bible" about all the animals and plants that can be found in the conservation area.
The lodge also offers a common viewing platform with view towards the river, that attracts lots of animals. Additionally to that they also have a viewing platform towards the artificial waterhole.
The Game Drives were also excellent. The guides have a very deep knowledge about flora and fauna and are happy to share it with the guests. Besides that they are happy to have a conversation or answering questions in their free time. The area around the lodge is inhabited by the Big 5, as well as various antilopes, giraffes, beautiful birds and does offer some spectacular landscape, too.
The food which is served is also exquisite. The only problem is, that you will definitely gain some weight during your stay;) The bar also offers a huge variety of spirits, wines and beers for a fair price. Not to forget the unique and very tasty Gin, which is distilled by Dave (the Lodge owner).
It is also remarkable, that this whole package does not have to be super expensive - compared to other lodges / travel agencies.
Another advantage is, that the way from Johannesburg to the Gate of Welgevonden is easy to drive. Most of the way is highway and some paved smaller roads - but in good condition. Only the last few kilometers to the East Gate are on a dirt road, which are also not a problem (unless there was pouring rain the days before).
I am happy to be back...
Read moreWe started our roundtrip in South Afrika on a fantastic way in Inzalo Lodge in Welgevonden. Great adventure started already driving to the gate and friendly welcome at the gate by the ranger. Already on the "road" to the lodge we encountered a group of lions enjoying the sunshine. The warm welcome continued at the entrance of the lodge, with most of the staff present. It is a lovely place, nice central building and view from the "deck". A first high quality lunch was served. Accomodation was great, nice "tented room", lots of privacy, only 5 rooms making it a "personal" experience. A couple of hours later high quality "high tea" with nice drinks and plenty of salt and sweat "snacks" was served. The start of 4 great game drives. Many thanks to both the rangers for the nice drives and sharing lots of information on the animals. Both morning and evening game drives with coffee / apero stops at fantastic locations accompanied by very nice snacks. Lovely breakfast and fine dinner. Congrats to both the chefs and staff. Nice food and great service ! Also thanks to start up the fire place in the room during dinner, as we traveled in South African winter (July). Nice and warm weather during the day, but quite cold nights. Friendly rangers, management and staff. It was a...
Read moreWow! We had the most incredible stay. The setting of the lodge is wonderful with the constant sound of running water from the river down below. The tent is beautifully decorated in an authentic 'glamping' style. Many other lodges rate their food highly and don't live up to expectations, but this lodge's food was the biggest surprise, everything was flavourful and delicious! I will be salivating about the lamb cutlets for ages to come. The birthday cake for my mom's birthday was very special. Getting back to the room after dinner, there was a hot bath run and waiting for us at the perfect temperature as well as candles - a real treat for couples. The staff are lovely and couldn't do enough for us. Gerhard and Priscilla are real darlings and Dave the owner is equally down to earth and friendly. On the game drive we also had a once in a lifetime sighting of 2 elephant bulls fighting, the force and power was unbelievable! We didn't see any predators but Gerhard's enthusiasm for everything (from the smallest antelope to birds) is contagious. It was really a stay to remember. Wish we could have...
