As a retired South African citizen and being a former member of the Pilanesberg community in my younger days, i often visit Manyane camping sight and enjoy my stay in visiting the big five and all the rest that there is to be seen, as well as the included hospitality of the camp staff to assist in all the needs during our stay. I have many happy memories of this ring mountainous and natural ecosystem developed over a period of thousands of years. It is very unique and equally silent in its existence, which makes a visit so much more to enjoy together with magnificent splendor of game and bird song listening all day long.
In the year 1952 i became a student of the famous high school known to me as RHS. I became well known by the teaching staff as a student who struggles at learning, and all I could muster to give to my teachers is--------------- love and respect. I was a happy schoolboy. I had to leave school after a second attempt at grade nine.(std 7) with a hard earned grade 10 certificate eventually at hand. As a little toddler at the age of five years my parents stopped at Rustenburg town hall on the way from Springs to grand parent's farm in Pilanesburg. I stood beside the car and gazed at the school building as it stood snug against the Magaliesberg; and, as then, not really knowing what had made me so excited about the building which I did not even know to be a school. I almost earned a spanking for this. I am very positive to say that i am today, at the age of 81 years, still very proud of Rustenburg High school. May our Lord God richly bless the staff serving the young ones and themselves this day and always...
Read moreAmong Southern Africa’s fascinating game reserves, Pilanesberg National Park is possibly the most accessible. Situated in the ecologically rich transition zone between the Kalahari and the Lowveld, this vast area promises thrilling big game viewing in a malaria free environment. A wide variety of accommodation is available to suit your needs. Some of the most beautiful scenery within the entire park can be viewed in the Mankwe Dam region. The dam is the largest body of water in the game reserve. This makes it the perfect place to spot a wide variety of animals. water-buck, wildebeest, zebra and impala are among the animals that make a stopover on the grassland bordering the dam.
For bird lovers, there is a bird hide very close to the water’s edge. Make sure you take note of the fish eagles, kingfishers and cormorants circling the dam. All of these places provide many a fantastic opportunity to photograph the plentiful array of fauna and flora.
Pilanesberg National Park, or Pilanesberg Game Reserve as it is often called, is located in the Bojanala Region, within the North West Province and relatively near Johannesburg. With an area of 550km², it is the fourth largest park in South Africa. The volcano crater in which the park is situated erupted 1300 million years ago. Pilanesberg was originally owned by 3 of the local tribes. Many of the Stone Age and Iron Age sites around the reserve show proof of the...
Read moreI stayed at the Ivory Tree lodge located inside the National Park and it was absolutely breathtaking seeing the wildlife everywhere in their natural habitats. We were very lucky enough to see the big 5 within the first 2 days of our safari's, and encountered so many close ups of animals it was definitely a bucket list experience I'll never forget. We got to see Lion's, cheetahs, rhinos, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, crocodiles, hyenas, and the guide was able to track them from their prints left on the trails- outstanding, and could even hear them calling eachother through the valley's. There's plenty of different types of accommodation in the park, all offering safari's and different levels of service, and they usually start at 5.30am for a few hours, then back in the afternoon approx 4pm for afternoon drives- both times when the animals are most active. Highly recommend having a local tour guide taking you apposed to driving yourself, as they provide you with information about the park, knowledge and experience. Highly recommend 👌 Please feel free to follow me on here, like my reviews and share my profile with...
