The surroundings are breathtaking but sadly the hotel has stayed completely unchanged for the last 13 years. The bed looks big but is only two single beds pushed up against each other. The food quality was very good but we had curry every meal except breakfasts. The only difference was the meat choice, but the curry sauce was 100% the same. It was nice but you would expect a bit of variety. The choice to only offer normal coffee along with tea with no options of cappuccino's etc. is a bit strange and outdated.
Also beware that there are a lot of potholes driving there and multiple parts of the road is just completely washed away.
The hotel looks tired with upgrades needed across the board. Our bar fridge didn't work and the towels are extremely old. Our weather weren't ideal but there is a lack of entertainment and the vibe is dead. We probably only chose the wrong weekend but it was us and a bunch of extremely old people reading books in silence. The paths are well tended, but like in most alpine regions, are prone to severe erosion and degradation. It is a very good idea, to get an early start on this trail, and to check the weather report before hand. Some sections of the trail do require a very good sense of balance and some climbing is required. For the final ascent, it may be a good idea to actually have a guide along. And make sure to take plenty of water and some energy bars. The trail leads through lush vegetation, rich in South Africa’s most beautiful Flora. And Fauna, if you can catch a glimpse of it. We saw a pair of magnificent buzzard-vultures, circling on...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic, a must experience to conquer, very sadly missed summit by 50m, no climbing gear as the guide accompanied one of the other hikers back to the hotel, but what an awesome time! Take 3 liters of water minimum, snacks, lunch, sunblock, hat, and trekking poles will help (this being in the middle of 6 hikes in 5 days was a very tough 5 days, but worth...
