This was not a pleasant stay for us. We nearly went home after the first night. I am 69 years old and my husband is 74. Unfortunately there were very high hard beds and strangely hard and uncomfortable chairs and couches in the rooms. I could only manage 2 to 3 hours sleep on the first night. I had to park my disability scooter next to the bed to use the step to climb in and out. The breakfast buffet was upstairs so we had to make do with eating downstairs. The breakfast was included in the almost R2 000 per night charge. On the second night we took the enormously heavy duvet which we'd stashed in the cupboard and folded it up and used it as a softer place to sleep. Managed 5 to 6 hours sleep. The scenery is beautiful as you can see from the photos, but it is not suitable for the elderly, the disabled and seemingly the children. Not much for them to do. We set out to buy a foam mattress but realised we'd have go to Vredenburg 35 km away to get one so we turned back. We had visited the place before with our grandchildren and had a wonderful time.    Read moreBeen here a few times and it is by far my most favourite hotel in South Africa. The place looks amazing! I love the statues, the art, the decor and the service is impeccable! They have my highest recommendation. Literally moved across the country due Shelley Point being an amazing place and live 1-2 streets from this hotel now. When I want a weekend away, I walk over there. So much so, that I would book a hotel room. If that doesn't tell you something, I don't know what will. Even their beds seem like they got delivered straight from heaven. The best rest money can buy. I simply love it! The only sad part is that the restaurant at the top closed but the other one downstairs is still open. The restaurant at the top had THE BEST breakfast buffets ever!!!! When it opens up again, I'm walking over and staying there again for a few days. This hotel is just so much different from any other hotel from JHB, DBN, Cape Town or Sun City. What they did here, they did it right -...
Read moreNever felt so uncomfortable in my own skin when visiting a restaurant. Took my family out for a birthday dinner to Cattle Baron and the waiter said he first have to speak to the Manager. Manager came down the stairs and immediately had a change of attitude saying that they are full but can accommodate us only with the buffet which was samosas for starter and not my taste. He referred us to another restaurant which is part of the Hotel, while being escorted by a waiter I ask him is it about our skin color which he laughed and shook his head "Ill lose my job if I tell you,but their was still space for you guys" got to the other restaurant waiting to get service which took them quite some time to help us. Finally got seated waiting almost 15 minutes and we havent receive menu's yet. We just stand up and walked out. Thanks for spoiling my birthday and I wishes you guys all the...
