The Richards Bay Landy Group together with Richard from Millar Enviro Services cleared most of the route on 4 May 2024. The path is still very narrow with vines that can easily rip off a mirror or snorkle and branches that can cause deep scratches to your vehicle. There is still about 1.5 km left, which is completely inaccesible, even for motorbikes. You therefor still cannot drive through the forest and come out on the other side. It took us 6 hours to clear 3 km's, and 1 hour to drive that same 3 km's after it was cleared. The grass-land tracks can still be negotiated with a high- clearance vehicle, but dont attempt going into the bush with-out a 4x4. But what a beautiful area to visit...take your family and friends and dont forget the bush-cutter and chain saw and help us to make the oNgonye Forest accessible to outdoor enthusiast again.

Yes, we "broke through". We opened up the whole path right through the forest on Saturday 02 May 2024.I still recommend that people dont go alone and take enough tools the likes of saws, bush-knives and even chain-saws as trees and branches keep falling into and...

The reserve itself will require a 4x4 vehicle to negotiate the tracks in the rainy season. Large vehicles will incur damage as there are some technical sections Do not go alone incase...

The GPS is wrong. Follow the signs and ask locals. The road is bad. But worth it.
