In the middle of making a life-changing decision, I was under so much stress that I just needed to escape to somewhere quiet. That’s when I found Baekjesa Temple in Jeju.
It’s smaller than many other temples, but that’s exactly what made it special — the space allowed for personal attention and deeper connection.
The monks and staff kindly guided us through temple etiquette, and during the 108 prostrations and mala (prayer beads) making, I prayed for my wishes with each bow. It was an emotional process that helped me face a lot of feelings I had been avoiding.
The meals were simple but full of care, and in the evening, I shared a cup of tea with a monk. In that quiet moment, I opened up about things I hadn’t been able to say to anyone else. The monk didn’t try to fix anything — just listened and shared warmth, and that alone gave me so much peace and clarity.
Since the temple stay, my life has changed. I’ve found the courage to move forward, and I often look back on that experience as a true turning point.
