Gamaksan is a good day hike within driving distance from Seoul. Although the surrounding views aren't particularly noteworthy, there is some Korean War history spots on the mountain, and on a clear day you can see as far into North Korea as the city of Kaesong, which is pretty cool. The hiking is moderately strenuous, but certainly doable for anyone who is in at least decent physical condition. If you have a car and want a good hike with views of North Korea, this...

Awesome hike but have to have your own car and drive from Goyang/Seoul area. Because it is far out, tends not to be crowded. The views are stunning. The hike up is pretty steep, I would recommend wearing good hiking shoes or trail runners. Always remember to bring hydration and calories (food) -- there is really no place to buy food on the way to the summit. The summit may have some food options depending on the seasons. Please always go prepared whenever in...

The hiking up Gamaksan was not too challenging as there were steps and directions were clear. However there were a few seniors in the group and they had found it a bit difficult going up. Nonetheless, we were all rewarded with good mountain mood, the waterfall and suspension bridge were simply mesmerizing. The fact that we came in late October and it is Autumn, the hike was indeed quite enjoyable! Nature always has her way...
