My sisters and I visited Spain to see the birthplaces of our grandparents in Asturias. We decided to go on to Bilbao and San Sebastian after that and, once in Bilbao, we had the BOB take care of everything for us. What a great time with these energetic and creative people - all of whom are fluent in English (even Zach from Michigan).
We did more than one tour with them. The first night was pintxos at a few places that everyone raved about. Olaia was great. Then we went on a winery tour - of 2 very different wineries, one with an unbelievable original cave underground where they served us a private, home prepared lunch among the vines. Zach was our guide and was exceptional. I personally could not have managed those caves and had the enjoyment I did there, but for his help. The next day, we took the Coast tour and Irene, native Basque, took us to the "best" restaurant on the sea - and it was.
We stopped in Guernica and saw a large wall replica of the Picasso painting. We saw the 17th century tree and the new tree, under which the president of the Basque Country is sworn in. The local culture is beautiful and very pronounced. Food and language very different from the rest of the country.
They arranged a private tour of the Guggenheim for the 4 of us as well. Mangel was our guide and she had vast knowledge of the structure, design, art exhibits and local culture. I am so happy we decided to include Basque country in our trip and that we had the BOB trio: Irene, Zach and Olaia (and Mangel) to make that such a highlight.
If you intend to see Basque country, you really cannot have better guides or a...
