Picos Rock and Snow — Local services in Cillorigo de Liébana

We had a wonderful stay with Mike and Lisa at Casa Gustavo in October. Mike guided us for 4 days of walking, and the other days he and Lisa dropped us off for walks or we walked into Potes, and the Picos de Europa visitor centre. Mike took us into the Picos national park with a trip in the cable car, where we walked via the ponds on the way up for a varied, less travelled route. The Picos are amazing rock scenery, yet somewhat grey when there were such beautiful autumn colours in the mountains on the edge of the park. So Mike found us some fabulous walks off the beaten track in the surrounding mountains, where we had the fabulous view of the Picos as a backdrop. Everywhere was green after the rains in September, with the trees starting to turn into golds and reds, and abundant flowers. I loved the autumn crocus and Merendera dotting about the high meadow grass. Also a huge range of mushrooms on the meadows and in the woods. Would be amazing to see the high meadows in spring when the spring flowers are blooming.

We really appreciated Lisa's wonderful cooking and delicious three course meals in the evening. We felt very well looked after during our stay. Relaxing on the balcony with a lovely view along the valley was a great way to end the day, or chill out on a rainy day. The cats and dogs would often come to join us on the balcony. We had four days guided walking with Mike, where he took us through rich and varied landscapes, away from the regular tourist trails, yet popping up to spectacular views. We also had four days mountain biking, again Mike's knowledge of the area proved invaluable, dropping us off and picking us up so we covered a large area. We were able to create routes for our bike computers as routes were not marked on the ground, this made it a proper exploration. Then back for a relax on the balcony with a beer, or a wander around Potes, followed by lovely meals provided by Lisa with lively conversation. We went ski touring and snowshoeing with Mike for a few days and it was just wonderful! Mike took care of all the organizing, driving us places, even the lunch! We didn't have to take care of anything, Mike new the mountains so well and told us much about it. The accommodations at his and Lisa's Casa Gustavo was very cozy and the food that Lisa cooked for us was delicious. We had our kids with us and that was no problem either. They loved the cats and the dogs in the house and both Mike and Lisa were really great with them. We had a lot of fun and we'll be back for sure!
