Before your trip to the top of Pico de Malpaso double-check your rental car terms and conditions. If you rented a regular car for a trip to the top Pico de Malpaso via Carretera de Tierra HI-45 and further via Pista Acceso Malpaso car will not be covered by the rental terms/conditions and insurance given by car rental company. It’s mean any tyre damage and any other damage will be not covered. The road is rocky and difficult. There are potholes and ruts. If, you rented SUV 4x4 should be OK.

It was fantastic. When I did my second trip weather was quite perfect and without clouds. The panoramic view from Pico de Malpaso is fabulous and extraordinary.

We hiked 5km to the peak above the clouds with a clear sky and we enjoy every minute of the way, changing from deep green forest to complete red volcanic desert areas. Just impressive. And the we caught an overwhelming mist on the way back which was like an out of this world experience, movie like story.
