The Chinyero volcanic vent, is the last eruption site on Tenerife (November 1909).
In 2009 the government has opened a circular trail around the volcanic site with its scoria dune and mostly AA lava flows. The walk has entry paths from La Montañeta (past Montaña Negra Volcano at Arenas Negras, that destroyed the harbour of Garachico in 1706), from San Jose de Los Llanos and Santiago del Teide.
The shortest walk is from the sharp bent in the TF-38 (road from Chio to the National Park). Personally, as I live on the North side of the island, I drive up the dirt track to the Las Arenas pic-nic area and walk from there as this saves you a big part of the climb from Montañeta which is mostly through forest with limited views.
