Spain trip game 1&2 Atalaya New Course I choose Atalaya because they are on Golfamores card. I was warn by my friend that course is nothing special, he was not quite right but not far from true. Firstly we played New course. Approaching the course you need to use GPS, barking is really next to club house, reason is that area is heavily developed and even clubhouse from outside is difficult to recognize, but its somehow typical for area. Checking process was fast and easy, receptionist was really helpful and friendly. Could not judge the driving range because we did not go there, we only practice putts and start to play. To get to the 1st tee you need to drive along the fairway of Old course 1st hole. New course is more hilly and holes are quite narrow with need for accurate shots. I was a bit surprised that in the beginning of high season the quality of tee boxes were quite bad. Greens were each different some of the cut some of them not. Best part of the course were fairways. Coming back to design I have to admit I really like it, on many holes you really need to know the lending spots otherwise balls are running out to danger or unplayable spots. Not sure what hole I would chose as signature, probably hole number 6. However finishing holes were quite boring. Atalaya Old Course Playing the course in afternoon after New course, we were paired with couple from Ireland. 1st hole starts just below the clubhouse. Than it follows on other side of the road. The course is pretty flat and holes to me all pretty much all same, I was not crazy about it and not sure why its more expensive and why it has better rating. Quality is a smidge better than on New, definitely the greens but still just average for area. Course is quite long so for short players its difficult to score. Most interesting holes are 1st, 9th, 17th and 18th, basically the holes next to clubhouse. For me it was a bit disappointment and if coming again will for sure choose New course. What I did not like is that if I want to buy logo ball for my collection I have to buy 3, its a bit bad marketing from my point of view. Restaurant there is OK with decent prices for everyone, do not expect high culinary,...
Read moreAbsolutely Disgraceful Behaviour by Two Entitled “Ladies”
Played the Old Course on the 4th of October, tee time 14:37. Fun chat with Rafa at 1st tee starter. What should have been a relaxing solo round turned into one of the most unpleasant experiences I’ve ever had on a golf course, all thanks to two elderly “ladies” who behaved like entitled, arrogant bullies.
It began on the 3rd hole, a par 3, when both of them hit their balls directly at me while I was standing beside the green, one shot narrowly missed. No apology, no awareness, just ignorance and entitlement. I shrugged it off, assuming it was an accident from two clueless players. I was wrong.
At the 6th tee, one of them (in white & red) started shouting at me while I was preparing to hit, storming onto the tee box and claiming they were “members” and therefore had more rights than I did, and that they were going to play through whether I liked it or not. The arrogance was unbelievable. The proper thing to do would’ve been to ask to join me or simply wait. Instead, she decided to act like she owned the course. I was never going to let then join me after that.
To see two grown women, supposedly members, one claiming to be on the committee and boasting her daughter is a pro and she knew all the rules to get me banned behaving like rude, self-absorbed children was honestly pathetic. Their behaviour was toxic, aggressive, and completely out of line with any standard of golf etiquette or decency.
Even the course marshals confirmed I had done nothing wrong, and they still kept arguing with the Marshall’s holding up the group behind them. The marshals were embarrassed on the club’s behalf, as they should be. These two “ladies” are a disgrace to the game and to the club’s reputation.
If this is the kind of behaviour the club tolerates from its members, especially from those supposedly in leadership roles, it’s a stain on what should be a respected course. Absolutely shameful conduct from two miserable, self-important bullies pretending...
Read moreOctober 2023 as part of a golf trip of 8 guys from North Yorkshire. First thing to note is that there are two courses here....The 'New' Course and 'Old' Course.
We played the 'New' course on the first day and generally rated it 3/5. Great layout etc, however the areas which let it down were the greens were in poor condition, the tee boxes often had high points in the middle and finally the side slopes which were too unfair towards even perfectly placed shots. To give an example you could play a nice controlled shot to the top/high side slope on your own fairway and the ball would often end up leaving the low side of your fairway and travel half way across a neighbouring fairway. This happened on far too many holes.
'Old' Course, without a doubt the better of the two courses in our opinion and a 4/5 rating. Greens, tee boxes, fairways and general playability was much better.
On leaving we all agreed that if we returned we'd skip the 'New' and instead choose to play the 'Old' twice.
Oh.....and no refreshment buggies came round at all on either course which was...
