Took a return ticket with Naviera Nortour company 15th March 2025 (€17 return, left on the 11.15 and returned on the 16:00).
Island itself is strangely alluring. Unfortunately I found it pretty busy in the main two places to swim (Puertito Isla de Lobos and Playa de la Concha) - not heaving, but enough to be annoying in the key photogenic spots.
I don’t know what’s happening with the authorisation that people are meant to get to visit this island, allegedly limiting the visitor numbers to max 400 per day in 2 “shifts”, morning and afternoon. No one mentioned this once when purchasing tickets or boarding the ferry. A shame because there were so many companies offering boats there, I am sure that these combinations exceed 400 people per day.
I hiked around 13km (I only had Converse on, nothing more than that). The lighthouse was a nice place to break up the day, approx 1hr from either direction at an estimate - I came prepared with fresh bread, ham and cheese and had a small picnic. I had stopped by the chiringuito upon arrival, as advised to make a booking, but they had no fish and a bunch of other stuff off menu so I didn’t bother in the end and was grateful I had planned ahead just in case. There was some shade finally at the lighthouse - lacking elsewhere on the loop. Also very nice views over the island itself and out towards Lanzarote.
As most reviews state - no toilets or shops, slather on the suncream as it’s sunny AND windy, hats and everything.
I was worried the 4+ hours I had on the island would be too long but with the loop walk and a swim at the end it was the most...
Read moreThis island is truly stunning. However, temperatures tend to be quite high, accompanied by a similarly high ultraviolet radiation index. Therefore, it is essential to bring sunscreen, adequate hydration, and comfortable footwear to explore the area. I particularly recommend sturdy and comfortable shoes for walking, as it is crucial to prevent burns on the feet. I myself opted to wear flip-flops to traverse the island and still ended up developing blisters on my feet. For this reason, I do not recommend the visit to individuals sensitive to heat. If you plan to have lunch on the island during the hottest hours, it is advisable to bring your own food, as local restaurants typically have enormous queues during that time.
The Lobos island got its name due to the abundant presence of sea wolves ("Lobos" refers to sea wolves, which in Spanish is "lobos marinos") when it was discovered. However, this scenario quickly changed when local fishermen began to hunt these animals to extract oils and sell their skins. In addition to the history related to the hunting of sea wolves, the island is known for its natural beauty and its importance as a habitat for various species of seabirds. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as hiking, wildlife watching, and diving in its crystal-clear waters. The island is often seen as a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and offers stunning views of the surrounding...
Read moreA must visit if staying in Fuerteventura. The island is a short hop on either a cheap (and fast) water taxi or a bigger less thrilling boat, available to book at vendors near the docks or in town centres. The island is small and features a lovely beach, a volcano you can walk up, some exquisite little bays with gorgeous views and lots of rocky trails to explore. Make sure to book enough time as it really flies by once you’re there, and although there is a cafe on the island, make sure to take snacks and drinks as walking through the rocky trails can get very warm. The beach has shallow water and is great for little snorkelers (and big ones) One word of warning, if you are planning to travel on the small water taxi speed boats, you do not get provided with a life jacket. Not really an issue for swimmers, but both my kids are young non swimmers so if the boat hit a big wave (it gets very choppy) and flipped, they would be in big trouble. The driver made sure to go slower on the way over due to our small children, but as we stuck armbands on them for the return trip, they opened the throttle and rode the waves. The kids loved the thrill ride and it made the perfect exciting end to...
