Mirador La Tarta — Local services in La Orotava

ALL the miradors in the park are great, try to stop and soak it in (5mins, no more, parking is a perpetual crisis on this island; we saw one car that went over the edge, needed to be lifted out). The park is beautiful. The dense forests give way to rocky, black, ragged, jagged moonscape of frozen rock. You can see places where lava was flowing, creeping over itself, frozen solid, slightly weathered. Pickup some rock, they are gas-porous light, astonishingly so; rocks are supposed to be heavy. Strike the rock and smell the gas still left in some. The sharp peak in the distance (IF the weather is good, erratic for sure) only hints of what a smoky, hot, mess this was once.

Note: the road(s) are EXCELLENT. Amazing in fact. Narrow, windy for sure but very good condition. Not a pothole anywhere. How do they do it? Rails everywhere, not dangerous at all. Drive 30km/h, why go fast? 40km and its back to ugly TF1. Take you time.

Annoying: motorbikes screaming by at 150km/hr, no mufflers, like this is the Isle-of-Man, life-or-death to the victor. Calm down guys, please....

l belvedere di La Tarta di Tenerife si trova in una delle autostrade che salgono al Teide, la TF-24, ed è uno dei migliori punti dell'isola da cui ammirare il vulcano e osservare i diversi strati geologici di Las Cañadas. Il nome di questo belvedere viene proprio dai colori della sua terra, che ricordano gli strati di una torta. La Tarta del Teide si trova in una curva dell'autostrada, con un belvedere su ogni lato. Vi consigliamo di lasciare l'auto in un'area di stazionamento e avvicinarvi per avvistare la roccia da vicino. Ogni strato rappresenta un colore (bianco, nero o rosso) che corrisponde a un'eruzione diversa. Tra l'uno e l'altro vi è una distanza temporale di secoli! Dal belvedere di La Tarta è possibile vedere le diverse eruzioni vulcaniche sofferte dall'isola di Tenerife. Il mix di colori di questo luogo lo rendono davvero unico. Inoltre, le viste del Teide che otterrete da questo belvedere sono impareggiabili, e se il tempo lo permette, è anche possibile vedere La Palma.
