The volunteers are great, but the woman who was in charge when we visited on a Saturday morning was not at all friendly nor approachable. Maybe she works well with the animals, but it's important to have a good manner with the visitors as well, which on this occasion, she did not!
Firstly, it took 2 weeks for us to get an appointment to see the dog we were interested in, because it's only open for 3 hours a day until 1pm and we work, so there are few appointments available.
Then, you can only contact them via email, not a phone call and their response time is not within 24hrs!
When we eventually managed to see the gorgeous dog and we loved it and he even met with oura and all seemed great to start the adoption process. But, were surprised when they said we'd have to take it home, there and then, without any kind of checks. However, given the delay in getting the appointment, we couldn't take it immediately as I was about to travel and as my husband works, we didn't want it to suddenly be left all day on its own in a strange house. So we asked if we could reserve him, at which we were told no and that it wasn't possible to reserve dogs. After some discussion, eventually the woman in charge agreed to put a reserve on it, but said that if anyone came and wanted it, then they would be allowed to take it! In which case, it's not reserved! But, our hands were tied and we really couldn't do anything else and so had to leave him there, in the hope that he would still be available in a couple of weeks. After all, he'd already been there for 3 months, so we left, unhappy, but hopeful that he'd still be available.
Very sadly for us, during those 2 weeks, the dog became unavailable, but we hope he went to a loving, forever home.
It just seems that unlike every other protectora we've been in contact with, this one seems to put obstacles in the way of people wanting to adopt the animals. Then it goes to the other extreme, of handing them over to anyone who comes along with a bit of interest!
Unfortunately, we won't be adopting from this particular place, which I feel is doing something wrong. I feel so bad for the animals and am gutted that we lost the opportunity of rehoming this precious little guy. We'll find another suitable dog in another protectora.
All this said, thank you to all the volunteers working to give these animals some joy everyday.
To the owner, if you don't know what's going on, maybe you should take a...
Read moreI met my latest dog at a fiesta on Entre Naranjos where Asoka had a stand. When we visited the stand we immediately fell in love with Boby. He had been kept at Asoka for just over 2 years. Asoka have been very helpful for us - giving us all the documentation we needed, giving Boby all the vaccinations and any surgery needed. While in the kennels, Boby (now called Sammy) was very well looked after, and the reactions of all the staff at his being adopted confirms this. Further evidence of how well these animals are looked after was in Sammy's reaction to being back when he came with us for the paperwork. He did not pull back, but wagged his tail the...
