Golf Son Gual Mallorca — Local services in Palma

Nice setting. Upon arrival myself and playing partner had to pay €8 for 48 scabby balls to warm up with. Bit disappointing as this should really be complimentary as per a lot of mainland Spain courses. We were not advised who we were paired up with and there was a lot of confusion at the tee due to language differences. We just played as a single pair. 2 old Germans decided to tee off early and were right up our a$s the whole time when they had nobody behind them. Play ahead was extremely slow with members being squeezed onto holes up ahead making it even worse. Very frustrating and lack of etiquette shown to allow quicker players through. This should be monitored by the club and wardens keeping play Challenging course. Greens were in great condition (difficult!). Half way house was not open and the only water was at the front of clubhouse if a refill was required. It would be good to have this facility next to 10th tee as it was...

Another impressive day of golf in Mallorca.

Having played so much golf in England during lock down even at some of the best courses in the country you forget how well done golf is, in the likes of Spain and Portugal. The set up at Son Gual is first class. Great driving range and short game facilities, proper caddie masters on hand to get you out quickly and efficiently. It’s a real joy to play on such well managed courses and as my new found South African playing partner mentioned, Son Gual boasts some of the best kept fairways we have both seen. Water is used well in the course design to provide some challenging and memorable holes. If I was going to be fussy I’d say it’s a shame that the course is so close to the airport and the frequency of in coming airplanes was a slight disappointment but to be honest it didn’t detract from the quality of the course and the joy...

I played Son Gual September 9, 2021. It was a warm sunny day. My experience was mostly excellent. The staff fit me into an alternate tee time after I arrived too late to comfortably prepare for my round. I got my rental club set and cart and went to the range to get acquainted with the clubs. It was an 11 club matched set - I don’t recall which brand, maybe Callaway. Good practice range, bunker, and putting green. It was my first time ever renting clubs, and while that part of the experience should be its own review somewhere else, I will say that using unfamiliar and unfitted clubs forced me to lower my expectations a lot.
