Santa Margarida Volcano — Local services in Santa Pau

No hype of the place !! It’s an easy - medium walk place ! It’s a volcanic area in the middle of forest ! People can do picnic in the Small volcanic area which can be found at the end of walk / hike . Certainly kids friendly . Cars will be stopped at the parking area and there is a fee of 4€ ! (Nov 2022). At the beginning of November we still couldn’t see any fall Color’s . So plan your day according to your interest . Both the volcanic areas can be done in a day as they are pretty small ! This place is pretty damn beautiful, a climb to the crater followed by a slow descent to the church making it a nice hike. Unfortunately, my family were very slow and we didn't get back until a full 3 hours of walking around the volcano was done, meaning we couldn't complete the full route.

A lot of paths happen to be blocked off, too. This makes for quite a frustrating experience as you look at your hiking map, decide on a route, and then find you...

We hebben de volledige lus rond Santa Margarida, Croscat en de Fageda d’en Jordà gedaan – een absolute aanrader. Er zit veel afwisseling in: verschillende soorten ondergrond, telkens weer andere uitzichten en telkens dat “wauw”-gevoel.

De wandeling start met een klim naar de Santa Margarida-vulkaan, gaat verder door het betoverende bos van de Fageda d’en Jordà, en eindigt bij de indrukwekkende volcà Croscat.

Halverwege zeker stoppen bij Granja la Fageda: lekkere ijsjes, yoghurt, en de yoghurtcake is een aanrader. Je kan er ook flessen water bijvullen. Voor de rest is er onderweg geen horeca.

De parking is betalend, maar je krijgt er duidelijke uitleg en de medewerkers zijn heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Ook fijn: veel schaduw onderweg, wat de wandeling extra aangenaam maakt bij warm weer.
