Beautiful island and beautiful, friendly people.

Our first time in Lanzarote and we stayed in Costa Teguise. Although we had a few days of bad weather (very hazy weather, couldn't see more than 100 meters) and it rained a day or two, but it doesn't change our overall view of this island and the people, everyone we have come across are very friendly. I have reviewed a number of restaurants and activities already and will continue to do so to promote this wonderful island (I'm not paid to do this).

If you have never been to this island before, I would recommend Playa Blanca as your initial stay, this has a beautiful marina and seems to be much sunnier than where we stayed. You really feel like you're on holiday with plenty to see, to shop and eat. We also went to the beach here and the sea was relatively calm.

A few recommendations and definite places to visit - Jameos del Aqua, a nice still pool in a cavern, very serene and you can see lots of tiny albino crabs, the place is very relaxing. While you are in the northern part of the island, try to visit Mirador del Rio, one of the highest point (if not the highest) in Lanzarote. Unfortunately the haze was so bad, we arrived and couldn't really see anything at all, so prepare to go on a sunny day.

Tamanfaya National Park is a must, but highly recommend that you book an organised coach trip rather than driving there, otherwise you could potentially queue for as long as 2 hours of going at the wrong time of the day. Also, the coach took us through the park, which I don't think cars can drive through. Really really recommended.

We did some activities, one of which is the Sea Trek with Native Diving in Costa Teguise. Consider we have never done underwater activities before, this was an amazing experience, especially for those who may be quite wary of the sea. More detailed review is the Sea Trek later.

Overall, really enjoyed the island, the people and the food. We would definitely come back again, although at different times of the year when the...

Lanzarote is such a unique island. We have explored several of the other Canary Islands in the past, but this was the first time we visited Lanzarote- and what an island it is! The first thing you will notice is that the landscape is unlike any other Canaries. On first glance, it may appear fairly baron, but a when you look further, it’s an amazing island. The northern most point of the island has some amazing little tide pools along the beach, mixed in with a fairly vast lava flow. You can also see both La Graciosa and Isla de Alegranza. Along the coastline, there are amazing and fascinating attractions- museums, natural wonders, wonderful little restaurants, and tourist stops. The SE coast line is where a lot of the more resort-type areas are. On the southern tip of the island, you have the fun little resort town of Playa Blanca. There is a great boardwalk area along the ferry/cruse terminal with lots of fun shops and restaurants to explore. Besides the city, there are several beaches a very short drive away. From here, you also have a great view of both Isla de Lobos and Fuerteventura. The middle of the island is very mountainous, volcanic, and has a multitude of vineyards and wineries (including what became our favorite wine last year- El Grifo). The vineyards are like nothing you will see anywhere; it’s almost surreal. Due to the volcanic nature of the landscape, the farmers had to dig down through the ash and plant the grape vines in the mineral soil- often more than a meter down. The area is dotted with these “pits” each with grapes plated in the bottom. While Lanzarote is certainly a very unique island and unlike the other Canary Islands, its uniqueness is what makes it special. You won’t regret spending a...

The Island is really nice with unusual views BUT... the tourism is becoming a nightmare with unfriendly local people who see you only as a money maker.... I used to come here years ago and it was so different! Today, you must absolutely avoid tourist places, like for instance, :the restaurants by the sea where the concept is what I would call "the Paella Ole ole"... With industrial products served by rude and mocking waiters... The price for this kind of meal is very high and risky in terms of hygiene... My advice : if you order the meal of the day :ASK THE PRICE FIRST!... AVOID also the village bars where prices will be given following your nationality.. In most of the shops where prices are not indicated :please run away... If you wish to meet smiling and honest people you must drive inside the Island in the Villages, like Haría where can meet nice canarian people... This is unfortunately the sad result of the newly explosion of tourism in Spain... My last unpleasant experience happened when I was waiting in a pharmacy and the owner was serving first the local people with a big smile and then the foreigners with a rude expression... WELL... It is a real pity because this Island has a real...
