Rock Climbing Company -Malaga & Spain- — Local services in Villanueva del Rosario

I have just spent 2 days with Silvi, from the Rock Climbing Company, refreshing learned climbing skills and learning  new ones.

I started rock climbing with Silvi a few months ago, when I did a 4 day course, learning from the very beginning.

I had never done any rockclimbing before and I loved it.

I spent 4 days learning all the skills you need to start climbing independently.

I practised some of them in a climbing gym when I went back to Finland.

I returned to Spain to spend the rest of the winter and I decided to do a 2 day ‘refresher’ course, to ensure I was capable of going climbing by myself safely and independently.

This time,  on day 1,  I did some lead climbing, managing top anchors and top rope some more difficult climbs.

I also climbed a Via ferrata, and Sílvia taught me the ropes technique to do this by myself, too.

On the day 2, we concentrated on movement skills and footwork on harder climbs, as well as a refresher on how to abseil safely.

Silvia chose the venues, according to the weather and she got it perfectly right.

On day 1, we went to the mountains of Villanueva Del Rosario with excellent weather.

On day 2, we went to Pinares de San Anton very close to the coast, getting the best learning conditions on both days.

Although I took part in an open group, the ratio was low and Silvia made sure each of us got tailored and individual teaching. She chose the content of the course, according to our aspirations and level of experience.

My boyfriend and I booked a 4 day beginner climbing course with Silvia in March. We had practically zero climbing experience (few sessions at the bouldering wall) so didn't know what to expect, but we ended up having an amazing time throughout and learning much more than we thought would have been possible.

Silvia is an expert climber and guide and she made us feel very safe, while also challenging us and gradually teaching us everything we needed to know as we progressively moved to harder climbs. She was extremely knowledgeable, kind, funny, and overall just the best guide we could have imagined. She did a stellar job in assessing our skills and transferring a wealth of knowledge that would allow us to climb outdoors independently. We even did some leading on the second day! Silvia knows the Málaga/Vva Del Rosario area like the back of her hand and even with the challenging weather, she knew exactly which spots to take us to considering the conditions.

We stayed at the self catering apartment offered by Silvia in Vva del Rosario and this was a perfect base with most climbs within a 10 min drive. An added bonus was being joined by Silvia's friendly rescue dog, Chiara, and a new addition, Curro, on all our adventures. Overall, we really can't recommend Silvia and her course enough. I have always wanted to try rock climbing as I enjoy outdoors, the mountains and being in high positions with a beautiful view around me. I have recently moved to Malaga with my family and realised this region has beautiful mountain areas very close to the coast.

I contacted Silvi and asked her about the possibility of getting some lessons on a regular basis with the aim of becoming a climbing instructor in the future. She kindly invited me to come to see her at her climbing base in Villanueva del Rosario, just north of Malaga.

Yesterday, Silvi took me for a hike to show me the different disciplines she teaches in the area. Silvi showed me the amazing cliffs where to learn and practise rock climbing, abseiling, via ferrata, mountaineering and outdoor bouldering.

Silvi also provided valuable information on how to start my climbing career from scratch and invited me to take part in the next beginners class.

Thanks to Silvia and the Rock Climbing Company for being so helpful, explaining how I could get started and showing me such a beautiful mountain area, so close to Malaga just 40 min drive from the Costa del Sol.
