Thaniwalla Devalaya — Local services in North Western Province

This is a very ancient devalaya which has a long history and a great archaeological value. It is devoted for god Thaniyawallaba who was once a regional king who ruled this area. He had won a war but because of mislead news about his death caused suicide of his queen and others. Because of unbearable heart pain of his wife s death he alsoo did suicide himself jumping on to his sword which is placed vertically on the tank which is called "Kadupiti wewa" now. People believe that after his death he was considered to be born as a god and he's travelling all over this area as the guardian of this village "Madampe". Taniwella Devalaya is an ancient and sacred Devalaya built in honor of the deity Taniwella Bandara. It is a very beautiful and spiritual place, filled with calmness and devotion. Within the temple premises, you can also see a sacred Bodhi tree, which adds more spiritual value to your visit.

The nearby wewa (lake) enhances the natural beauty of this temple, making the surroundings peaceful and refreshing. We parked our vehicle on the other side of the road, which was convenient for our visit.

Thaniwella Dewalaya located at Madampe old town near by Colombo Chilaw road on Thinipita/Katupita Tank bend top. It was constructed by devotees to worship Thiniyawallabha Prince/Thaniwelle Bandara Deiyo who was a regional prince/king of Kotte era.
