This is a great place for kids. I've got a few sprogs and have been back twice now in 2 years. The snow is generally great and it's quite a chilled resort. It is the most kid friendly ski resort I've been in, and with 2 kids under 7 it's a great place for them to learn to ski. Make sure though that you book your ski lessons for the kids well in advance, as they do book up. We normally stay in Vargen which is about 50m from the slopes, which with 2 little ones is important (as you'll be dragging them and their gear to and from the slopes). It's also right on the slope where the lessons take place, which makes it really simple.
The only downside is the fact that there are only 2 lifts to get out of the resort, and as a result they're generally pretty busy. And as it's on the far eastern side of the Åre ski resort, you'll have to do a few runs every time in order to get across to the other areas. Don't forget too that there's not much day light here over Christmas (which is when we normally go) and as a result, the lifts only open at 9:30 and close at 3. So you've got to be organised and make the most of your time.
Different to lots of resorts in the Alps, you don't pay for kids ski passes which saves quite a bit. Bizarrely and probably as a result of that, it's actually pretty good value for money, which for a skiing holiday is the exception to the rule. We've been back 2 years in a row and will certainly keep going, until our kids are bigger and can travel a bit further on a...
