The tour started with a 2-hour scenic bus ride from Rovaniemi, Finland, to Sweden, with a guide picking us up from the tourist information center in Rovaniemi.

The Icebreaker Experience The icebreaker ship is a beauty—massive and powerful. The first 30 minutes are the most thrilling as the ship crushes through the thick ice while sailing toward the vast frozen sea. Tip: It’s freezing cold outside, but make sure to head to the front deck and pick the best spot—watching the ice break beneath the ship is a breathtaking experience!

Then comes another unforgettable moment—the ship stops in the middle of the icy ocean, and we were able to walk on the frozen sea! The feeling of standing, lying down, and taking photos on an actual frozen ocean is something you’ll never forget. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Floating in the Icy Ocean We also booked the swim in the icy ocean—an absolute must-try! Dressed in a special thermal survival suit, we floated among the ice without feeling the brutal cold of the Arctic waters. Tip: Try to swim a little away from the crowd for a more peaceful experience.

The photographer on board was great at capturing pictures for everyone in the group. However, don’t bring your own camera or phone—the suit fully wraps your hands like crab claws, so you won’t be able to grip anything. Just relax and enjoy the surreal beauty of the sea, the sky, and the ice!

Captain’s Room Visit & Onboard Amenities Another fun part—you can visit the captain’s room when the ship is stopped! The captain is super friendly, and you can sit on the captain’s throne and see the view from his perspective. He’s happy to answer any questions about the icebreaker, so don’t hesitate to ask!

Our package also included a 2-course meal with soup, bread, and a main dish—we got salmon with rice, which was decent. But honestly, food wasn’t our focus, so we weren’t too picky.

There’s also a cafeteria on board where you can buy snacks, drinks, and small souvenirs, so take your time to explore the ship!
