I seriously cannot say enough great things about the Reindeer Lodge, the staff, and the accommodation. My fiance and I were on a 2-week holiday exploring Scandinavia and we booked the Reindeer Lodge for our 3-day excursion to Kiruna. We didn't receive any email confirmations after we booked, so we did have to email and ask for them, but they were quick to respond right away with our documents. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but we were so blown away by the service we received - this was by far our FAVORITE place out of our whole trip. We did arrive early since we were taking part in the Raidu experience that afternoon and they were able to accommodate and get us in our cabin before the experience began. The reception area/lodge is clean and nice and just a great common space to meet with the other lodge guests. The cultural music playing really added to the ambiance and I really enjoyed it. Our cabin was exceptionally clean and cozy. The staff were all SO friendly. They offered us the chance to feed the reindeer on a couple separate locations, we sat and listened to some stories, and they were quick to answer any questions we had. We loved learning about the Sami peoples and it was clear that all the staff were very knowledgeable about the culture and you could definitely see all of their love for the reindeer :) Since it was winter, we had dinner provided to us at the cafe at the museum (about a 7 min drive away) and again - staff were incredible, food and drinks were fantastic, and the ambiance was perfect.
We ended up staying during a very, very cold week (-40C!). The sauna was a blessing. Because of the cold, on our last night, the power did go in and out - we were lucky our lights stayed, but our heater did go out. We used the woodfire stove in our cabin which worked well to keep us warm. Unfortunately, the pipes did freeze in the toilet and the reception/lodge lost heat, but the most friendly staff member already had everything covered. She set us up at the IceHotel for breakfast and got it all worked out before we even were awake :) Since we were checking out that morning, we went to the IceHotel to use the toilet and eat, and then drove back to turn in our cabin key - only to have our rental car battery shut down due to the extreme cold. The woman that worked with us that morning then dropped everything to help us out (even with all the crazy going on!) to drive us to the pharmacy and then to the airport and even helped explain the situation to the rental car place. She was our biggest blessing and we are absolutely kicking ourselves for not getting her name. Thank you a million times over - we so appreciate you!!
We seriously cannot say enough fantastic things about this place. If you have the chance to stay, please do it. If we ever find ourselves back across the pond and in Sweden, we definitely will be paying a visit here again. THANK YOU for the most amazing...
Read moreSandra and Filip here, still smitten with the Reindeer Lodge after our magical stay! We originally planned to stay just one night, but let's just say, two nights later, and only pre-booked trips elsewhere dragged us away! (If we could, we would probably still be there now!) From the warm welcome at reception to the moment we spotted reindeer frolicking right outside our window (yes, Reindeer!), this place had us hooked. The staff? Superstars! Every single one was friendly, helpful, and so knowledgeable about Sami culture. We wanted to shout out each name, but seriously, everyone deserves a standing ovation! The two rooms we tried, the Superior Chalet and the Chalet, were both gems in their own right. Charm oozed from every corner, making it hard to pick a favourite. Breakfast in the cozy reception, complete with a crackling fireplace and followed by reindeer feeding, were a highlight. Then came dinner... wow! We ended up eating at the Sami Museum (part of the Lodge) every single night, even when we ventured to other hotels! The included dinners were a delicious bonus, and the food (major props to the chefs!) was simply phenomenal. Add to that the warm atmosphere, crackling fire, and -20 degrees outside? Pure bliss! And did we mention we loved that the Lodge is Sami-owned and (largely) staffed? Learning about their rich culture was fascinating and eye-opening, once again thanks to the friendly staff.
We recommend the reindeer excursion for a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Reindeer Lodge, you stole our hearts! Thank you from the bottom of our mugs (filled with Sami hot chocolate, of course!). We'll be back, you can...
