What a lovely drive from Lausanne to Aosta valley via the Great St Bernard pass. It will close on the 16th October so it was just in time as well.

You need to take the pass road next to a lake which has been created because of a dam. Just make sure you don't take the tunnel road or else you will miss the pass. The one way to do this is to direct your GPS to the St Bernard Hospice.

The drive is not that challenging but the views of the craggy cliffs and the St Bernard lake are just gorgeous. We drove when there was a lot of fog and that made it even more special.

There is also parking available near the Hospice and the lake. Keep going on from there and you will first reach the village of Saint Rhemy and then the Aosta valley.

Very enjoyable...

Skip the tunnel and take the old way through the pass. It's a beautiful route and has an important historic value. I've walked through it in spring and autumn when there is still snow and in the summer when the pass is alive with green and flowers. On the very top there is an old abbey and a place where they still keep st.bernard-dogs and a little further ,coming from Switzerland, just across the boarder there's a little eatery, Dehlia, you just should...
