Brissago Islands — Local services in Circolo dell'Isole

The Brissago Islands are the Canton Ticino's botanical park. The little island (Isola Piccola or St. Apollinaire) is covered with spontaneous vegetation, mostly from the Insubrica region, kept in its natural state. On the big island (Isola Grande or St. Pancrazio), which was opened to the public in 1950, mostly subtropical plants with origins from the northern and southern hemisphere are grown.

In 1885 the baroness Antoinette Saint Leger transformed the islands into a residence where painters, sculptors, musicians and writers could meet. The big island became an exotic garden. In 1927 the new owner, the businessman Max Emden from Hamburg, had the actual palazzo, the dock and Roman bath built and increased the cultivation of exotic plants.

The botanic park offers impressions of exotic subtropical countries. Azaleas, rhododendrons, Japanese palm trees, numerous camellias, Japanese banana, bamboo, the Ginkgo transport the visitor to the Far East. The group of South African plants surprises with. The Central America zone offers a completely different scenario with large-flowered magnolia, agaves, cypress (present from the 30s with the typical roots sticking out from the water), yucca, California poppies, sage from New Zealand transport the visitor to other continents.

Sage, rosemary, cork, palm of the Canaries, represent the Mediterranean countryside.

The Brissago Islands are part of the Gardens of Switzerland network, which brings together the most beautiful gardens of Switzerland.

Eine wunderschöne Insel mit der Villa Emden nähe Ascona, mit einem Shuttle Schiff von Porto Ronco aus, wird der Besucher auf die Insel befördert. Der Ankunftshafen resp. der Anlegesteg verheisst schon etliches, denn man fühlt sich wie in einer anderen Welt um 100 Jahre zurückversetzt. Es empfängt einem ein sehr warmes, angenehmes Klima. Nach wenigen Schritten ist das Emden Hotel erreicht, eine ehemalige Villa, die vieles gesehen hat und turbulente Zeiten durchmachte. Der Eingang zum Hotel ist gewaltig, so stellt sich der Besucher eine gehobene Villa vor. Es ist alles historisch und man kann sich gut vorstellen, wie es dazumal war, obwohl nicht alles wirklich gut saniert und erhalten wurde. So manches ist eher verpfuscht worden und einen wirklich guten Konsens zwischen Alt und Neu ist verfehlt worden. Trotzdem der Historie tut dies keinen Abbruch, denn sofort fühlt sich der neugierige Besucher, in sehr alte Zeiten versetzt. Ein elegantes, bombastisches Entrée, hohe Räume, Teppich und Parkettböden wechseln sich ab. Kunst und Bilder vom Feinsten, der Speisesaal altehrwürdiger Raum, der Wintergarten lädt zum verweilen, der Ausblick auf See, Botanischer Garten verschlägt dem staunenden Gast die Sprache. Dem Erdgeschoss mit Eingang und Empfang kann eine gewisse Romantik nicht abgesprochen werden. Der gehobene Adel hat sich hier vor 100 Jahren ein Stelldichein gegeben, einige Besitzer hatte die Villa, es sind teilweise traurige Kapitel, welche die Villa auf der Insel erlebt hat. Man spürt im ganzen Gebäude und auf der ganzen Insel eine einzigartige Stimmung, es ist spürbar und geheimnisvoll, wie man sich in der Vergangenheit fühlt, sogar als ein Teil dieser Vergangenheit hat man den Eindruck. Der Besucher wird regelrecht in diese vergangenen Tage versetzt, ja sogar gezogen. Die Bilder und Möbel in den öffentlichen Räumen tragen viel dazu bei, dass der Besucher ein Teil dieser alten Tage wird, es ist unerklärlich wie sich die Seele der Gäste mit der Vergangenheit verbindet. Das Shuttle Boot ist wie eine Zeitmaschine, die Menschen aus der Gegenwart in die Vergangenheit holen. Eine Reise die sich lohnt, ein...

Well-maintained island to stroll around idyllicly. The island is good to spend 1 to 2 hours. I spent 1 hour 20min here. Isole di Brissago is segregated into several parts with colorful flowers display and themes. I love the bamboo area with foggy mist, there is also a swing overseeing the lake nearby.
