Definitely well worth the visit. I would make sure what their opening times are if you want a drink , snack or meal. The views from the hut are astonishingly beautiful. The tranquility is hard to explain in words. To get there is really not too difficult. The path was a groomed ‘piste’ as it’s covered in snow. But very well maintained. It’s about a 1 1/2 hour walk - this is a steady paced walk with time to take photos and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. Some people might struggle with the walk , not due to the difficulty but the altitude which might affect them. The only part of the walk was the last 20 meters of getting to the hut itself. It’s quite steep with a bit of loose rocks (small). I point this out only if you are not steady on your feet. But with appropriate walking / hiking shoes and poles it is no issue. I feel that it is up to us (the hikers , tourists , explorers ) to be prepared. A lovely touch of the hut , when you get there you change into a pair of ‘house slippers ‘ like croc shoes or sliders. You take off your hiking shoes and leave them in the shoe changing room and you put on the ‘leant ‘ shoes. This not only spares the staff extra work from dirty hiking shoes , it keeps the hut so clean. It really is a must if you already have made the effort going up the Jungfrau. I cannot comment on the food , unfortunately we arrived just as the kitchen closed (that was an error on our part not checking the kitchen closing time ), however we could still buy a coffee and snacks. Do not expect this beautiful mountain hut to be a 5 star luxury restaurant with a huge variety and loads of choices - this is a beautiful mountain hut which serves food and drinks for you to fill up on while you are enjoying nature and gorgeous Mountain Views. It is for people who care more for nature than people that want lush choices. I would also recommend going here when the weather is sunny with a blue sky , you will leave with the gorgeous mountain imagine forever in your memories. Ps : prices of the restaurant are also very reasonable considering the effort that is needed to transport the...

Open from mid-March to mid-October, depending on snow conditions. Access primarily via hiking from Jungfraujoch:

Start from Jungfraujoch Access Point: The hike to Mönchsjochhütte starts from Jungfraujoch, which is accessible by the Jungfrau Railway from Interlaken via Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen. Scenic Train Ride: The train journey itself is a spectacular experience, passing through tunnels in the Eiger and offering stunning views of the alpine landscape.

Hiking Route Difficulty: Moderate Distance: 4.5 km one way Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours The trail from Jungfraujoch to Mönchsjochhütte is well-marked and crosses glacial terrain. It requires a good level of fitness and acclimatization to the altitude. Hikers are treated to incredible views of the Aletsch Glacier and surrounding peaks.

At the Hut

Accommodation: Mönchsjochhütte offers dormitory-style accommodation with basic facilities. It is advisable to book in advance, especially during the peak season. Meals: The hut provides meals, including breakfast and dinner, with simple but hearty alpine fare. Packed lunches are also available for hikers. Facilities: The hut is equipped with a dining area, toilets, and washrooms. Given its high altitude and remote location, facilities are basic but sufficient for an alpine experience. Electricity and Connectivity: There is limited electricity, and mobile phone reception can be sporadic. It’s a great opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the natural...

Wenn man etwas anschauen will, stehenbleiben.

We hiked there in a bit more than an hour, beautiful landscape, deep love for the mountains and the glacier! Knowing that the hut would shut its kitchen at 3pm we get there at 14:35 certain that we could find some food and beverages. I ask the waitress ( very young and really cold) where the menu was and she told me THERE’S NO MORE FOOD! Meanwhile all her colleagues where cleaning the kitchen…25 min before the end hour. Do they really want to make me believe that on the first and most important week of august, the only hut on the Jungfrau runs out of food so early and it just happens that all the staff was thoroughly cleaning the kitchen? They were unwelcoming, cold, didn’t want to work and serve the clients…we had the feeling we were bothering them! A real shame for such a beautiful and unique place led by laziness and lack of respect for those who finally pay their salaries!
