Brienzer Rothorn — Local services in Schwanden bei Brienz

It is a pity that in the name of tourism and beautiful views, Swiss government promotes this diesel train and spreads fumes and smoke in the beautiful mountains. Not only passengers and children inhale this smoke in the tunnels but also the poor animals (cows, sheeps and goats) along the mountain slopes which are innocent in this whole business. Yes, the views are beautiful along the way and also on the top but then why be so selfish to nature and animals for money and why advertise yourself as Swisstainable when you are not sustainable.

Another problem is reservation fees of 8 CHF which is a complete nonsense ripoff. There are limited count of seats sold on the website and counter in together. When there are no seat numbers and when tickets are exact limited sale in numbers, then it is simply booked. Don’t know why there is an extra reservation cost when a person has already paid for one seat from the total seats. The 8 CHF is just a blackmail price that if you want a ticket then you will have to pay this too. 96 CHF + 8 CHF = 104 CHF is what you pay.

Another problem is that engine of our train (30.07.2023 11:45 am) was loud compared to other trains even when there were 2 carriages between us...

We were charged when we shouldn't have been!! We had the half fare pass and The BO pass too. We were charged over the counter on the day by a female member of staff. We weren"t sure whether it was included but when we got home on the Swiss Travel Planning group I joined on facebook I was told it should have been free with the 2 passes we had!! Be careful! We are british and I am afraid we had been conned into paying!! It was a great journry and fantastic experience but disorganised. We got our ticket in advance over the counter and queued with others who had booked online or who had just turned up. Beware if there is an organised group trip, they get on before anyone else and the seats are taken. We almost didn't get on!! It was a free for all!! Chaos! Have your whits about you when paying. I have emailed them copies of all passes and tickets and am waiting for a refund 🤞🤞 The view at the top and beautiful scenery is great just a shame about...

The train could be more comfortable and less packed (8 people in each compartment, with no masks or COVID vaccin/test demanded, and you have to pay an extra 8 CHF per person on a website to "guarantee" your spot - hilarious, but apparently just buying the train ticket doesn't give you the right to a place, if it's full, you have to wait, a long time, for the next train). I think that in this day and age, the booking process could be much better. Anyway, appart from that, the ride itself is wonderful, with incredible views that will be forever engraved in your memory and that makes you wish you lived there, in the mountains, surrounded by beauty, in a charming chalet with lovely cows, just starring at the gorgeous colours of the...
