Temple of Bel-Shamin — Local services in Homs Governorate

This isn't so much as a review of the historic site since I've never been there but a comment about a review from Michael Rotter that was posted about a week ago that i just read. You said that you'll never go there now because it was destroyed and that it was the government's fault for not securing it properly. Where do you think this place is? New York city or Washington D.C.? This is an extremely violent and dangerous place and if you know anything at all you'll know that the Assad government doesn't really care about history or the well-being of their residents. The man had actually ordered the mass chemical attack that was carried out on his own people and killed thousands of people because they were rebelling against his dictatorship and his oppression of his people. So they're not gonna use the very small military assets that they have to secure a site that should be off-limits to anyone or any group that has any kind of morals or understanding of their own heritage. This Michael Rotter probably doesn't even understand the historical or religious significance of this site to even give an educated comment about what has happened there. "Should have secured it better" he says. The Syrian army doesn't have a bunch of overweight mall cops (which is probably what this guy's relatives are) to sit around all day and wait for something to happen to it that hadn't happened in almost two thousand years. It absolutely drives me crazy when people leave comments like this when they're some 13 year old idiot who thinks putting their two cents into a topic is cool. Frankly, you just sound like an idiot. So please, keep your comments to yourself until you educate yourself enough to actually say something worthwhile and not just using up...

The temple was amazing. The church on the site of the Baalshamin temple (destroyed in 2015) or on the proto-Semitic (Baal Shamaim) - the Master of Heaven. Michael I agree with you. It really is a shame what happened here. So much heritage lost for nothing.. its sad.. but some people have no clue how much history was behind it. They think of Syria and all they know is ISIS...
