只要開車經過中山高苗栗路段，遠遠的就會看到一座非常亮眼的紅色大橋「新東大橋」。這座新東大橋是坐落在苗栗後龍溪上五座大橋的其中一座，也是外型非常強眼的一座，應該算是苗栗地區的新地標。 紅色的新東大橋，是臺灣的一座公路橋樑，位於苗栗縣苗栗市，是世界第6座，全臺灣第1座採對稱斜張全電焊式鋼橋，橋長376公尺，寬21公尺，於1997年（民國86年）11月22日落成啟用，跨越後龍溪，聯絡苗栗市與公館鄉兩地交通，橋下的新東大橋河濱公園以言也是個綜合的休閒娛樂場所，適合散步、遛狗、慢跑、騎單車、約會、烤肉、放煙火、看夜景聊天的好去處。
