Kiokai ni Santo Yosef (Jinlun St.Joseph's Catholic Church) — Local services in Taimali

(中文在下面) It is one of the most unique church I’ve ever seen in Taiwan. The interior of the church is decorated with beautiful wooden art works which show the features and cultures of the Paiwan (one of the Taiwanese aboriginal tribes).

The most interesting part for me is to see Jesus, Maria and Joseph wearing Paiwan style clothing. And these wooden art works just reminded me of the Notre Dame Cathedral I saw in Taioha'e, French Polynesia.

If you know nothing about Paiwan tribe, I would suggest you go to “Da-wu shan eco education center” before you visit this church. The exhibition at the first floor will help you to learn about their cultures and lifestyles. Don’t miss the 25-minute film. This place is also good for foreigners who doesn’t speak Chinese.

If you have the chance to come by in Jinlun, I would highly recommend you to visit this...

This church is super beautiful inside. There is so much woodwork and art design in a relatively small space. There are many large wooden pieces for the pulpit, doors, statues etc. but there are also weapons, knives, spears hanging along the ceiling.

The style of art depicting biblical stories and figures through the lens of the Paiwan aborigines is really stunning. There are probably one hundred painted fish lining the walls and each has a unique detailed illustration. The stained glass windows also have a distinct and cohesive style.

I've never seen a church like this. Most of the Catholic Churches I've seen in Taiwan are a chaotic mix of pretentious and rundown. This is a really well crafted space with so much attention to detail. You could stay all day and always find more intricacies within the design.

We went on a Friday just after Labor Day so there was a tour group outside, but only 3 other people came...

分享這次台東最愛的景點，位於太麻里鄉金崙部落的聖若瑟天主堂。（真正的太麻里隔壁😏） 教堂外觀與一般的教堂截然不同，以傳統排灣族建築的石板屋為基礎搭建的教堂，高聳的十字架底下是以排灣族頭目的頭飾，熊鷹羽毛和山豬獠牙來當主視覺。原木的木頭門也刻上了各式排灣族的形象。也因為石板的材質多是黑色板岩或頁岩，使得教堂外觀的顏色成為特殊的黑色。也成為全世界為數不多（好像只有3間）的黑教堂之一。

平常沒活動的時候，天主堂是允許開放參觀的，遊客可以自行從旁邊的側門自行進入參觀，但請務必遵守相關參觀規範。進入教堂內部所見更是獨特，穿著排灣族服飾的聖母瑪利亞和聖若瑟，排灣族聖物的百步蛇雕塑和玻璃彩繪，鏤空的天頂上，鴿子和天使的彩繪在受洗池內受洗時會透過光線折射印入眼簾。教堂四周的聖經故事，跟台灣宮廟的石雕或畫作有異曲同工之妙，你能有三英戰呂布，我就能有耶穌復活。而教堂內的光影明暗之間更是充滿了儀式和神聖感，還有許多的細節值得親臨現場去感受。
