From a signage on site: "Looking down from here, occasionally trains can be seen traveling between Daqingshui and Chongde tunnels. This is the Northlink Railway Line. Work on extending the Northlink Railway Line from Suao to Hualien, one of the 10 Major Construction Projects of the time, began in December 1973 and the line opened in February 1980. Building of the line established a railway link between Yilan and Hualien and also connected to the existing Hualien to Taitung East Line, substantially reducing travelling time between Hualien and north Taiwan. Electrification of the Northlink Railway Line was completed in 2003 and the line became double track on its entire length in January 2005, greatly increasing capacity and speed.

The Northlink Railway Line passes through the winding and steep cliff terrain by means of a number of tunnels. Of its 79.2 kilometers in length, 31 are tunnels: the longest tunnel is the Xinguanyin Tunnel at 10.307 kilometers, the longest railway tunnel in Taiwan. 崇德，隱身於花蓮秀林的小聚落，有著鮮為人知的小車站與祕境海灘，更是立霧溪的出海口。從太魯閣出口驅車而來只需五分鐘左右，造訪太魯閣前後，不妨轉個彎，踏入能欣賞壯麗斷崖與海景的崇德吧！

花蓮縣 崇德，一個人口千餘人的小村落，隸屬於花蓮縣秀林鄉。對許多旅人而言，崇德僅是匆匆一瞥的地方，不是踩下油門盡速駛離艱辛的蘇花公路，不然就是硬著頭皮準備進入這崇峻險山之中。但崇德得天獨厚的地理位置，卻有著無與倫比的視野與景觀，是台灣最壯麗清水斷崖的玄關。 崇德交通位置 崇德原名「達給黎」（TKijig），南起立霧溪，北抵清水斷崖崇德隧道。不論搭火車、自己開車，當我們從北邊前來，在穿越蘇花公路或鐵路間崇山峻嶺，出了崇德隧道後，印入眼簾的就是山海相伴的崇德，再往前過了立霧溪就是花蓮大平原。 從立霧溪口延伸至清水斷崖前，這段5~6公里長的狹長地帶，一邊是山，一邊則是海。月形的崇德海灘，比鄰著直衝天際的大山，而陪襯的景緻就是台灣最壯麗的清水斷崖。

清水斷崖。山壁斷崖緊鄰太平洋，大山絕壁與蔚藍大海構成了一幅最壯麗的台灣景緻。 交通上，崇德車站僅有電聯車停靠，從花蓮搭乘電聯車往北（宜蘭、台北方向）僅需4站，約略20分鐘即可抵達崇德車站。若開車，從花蓮車站沿台9線往北，約略25公里，30分鐘內可抵達。

而在蘇花改通車後，現在開車從台北、宜蘭前往花蓮，也相對安全快速。大概2.5小時，就可從台北抵達花蓮。這讓以開車為選項，從台北安排個崇德一日小旅行，成為一件容易的事情。

崇德車站僅電聯車停靠，其他車種皆會呼嘯而過。 崇德車站是北迴鐵路上，欣賞清水斷崖最佳的火車站。車站西側就是大山，另一側就是太平洋。蘇花公路、北迴鐵路就從山海間狹長地帶南北穿越，車站往北望去，是台灣知名的清水斷崖。
