It’s a short walk (900m return) from the car park to the Shrine where you can overlook the gorge and take in the serenity while reflecting on the construction workers who died building the road through here. The full pathway is not open so you don’t need to schedule more than an hour here.

Read moreThe shrine itself is pretty small, but the view of it from the side of the gorge is totally worth it. There's also a decent path that takes you up to two small towers and then on to a larger temple. We didn't go all the way to the other temple since we didn't want to miss our bus back to Hualien, but the walk to the two towers, about 1km mostly upstairs, was a really nice walk that got the blood flowing.
