As of June 2024. The market is open. The guards will just take a picture of your passport. The market is mostly practical stuff for locals, food, fabrics, tools etc. There is some scarves and jewelry if you want souvenirs but alot of it is mass manufactured. But it not expensive and are interesting things to buy.
They will take Tajik Somoni, and no need to change to Afghan money unless you want some to keep.
There is food available, you see kids selling potato paratha and other snacks. And in the back there are several food stalls. Some stalls selling shaslik skewers, for 3 Soms each, many plovs, and 1 guy selling some kind of organ stew that is really good.
