Art In Tanzania — Local services in Dar es-Salaam

Now that my experience with Art in Tanzania has ended, I have better understood the NGO.

From Tanzania and its people, I take away the most beautiful experiences, from the other volunteers and the individuals responsible for our well-being. However, one should not expect to save the world through this endeavor.

My only complaint pertains to Kari, the founder and the primary point of contact for volunteers before arriving in Tanzania. I do not consider his work to be particularly ethical. The NGO is a cover for his personal business interests. I would not recommend participating in activities with the NGO due to the exorbitantly inflated prices. This wouldn't be an issue if the funds were reinvested in the NGO's activities and its people. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case. A trip that costs €300 ends up setting you back €600, and it's unclear where that extra money ends up (likely in Kari's pocket).

Another reason for questioning his moral integrity is that the NGO has existed for over ten years, yet the facilities are woefully inadequate, with just the bare essentials (which volunteers also pay for, and not a tiny amount). Moreover, there are individuals living in the same house who work alongside Kari and carry out the admirable fieldwork in Tanzania. At the very least, he should invest in better facilities.

Furthermore, individuals who did not complete their extra activities did not receive a refund for what they paid, or Kari failed to fulfill his end of the contract by not paying the agreed-upon $100 when they stayed for more than four weeks.

Regrettably, what casts a shadow over the entire experience is Kari's management. One enters this venture believing that one will participate in serious and continuous projects and that the fees paid will be well-utilized for the NGO's community work, but it serves as personal income for one individual, Kari. Bevor ich meine Bewertung schreiben möchte ich daraufhin weisen, dass alle negativen Bewertungen in Sternen einzig und alleine Kari Korhonen (Gründer/Eigentümer) geschuldet.

Der Großteil meiner gesammelten Erfahrungen in Tansania waren mehr als gut, aber ein Aspekt überschattet meinen Aufenthalt leider und das ist der Gründer/Eigentümer der NGO (Kari Korhonen). Fangen wir mit dem Personal vor Ort an. Alle Leute sind sehr hilfsbereit, offen und einfach nur nett und wenn ich nur das bewerten würde, dann würde ich 5 Sterne vergeben, jedoch gibt es noch mehr als nur das. Kari Korhonen war meine Kontaktperson, die für mich alles organisiert hat und an denen ich die Zahlungen für das Projekt, sowie für die Ausflüge geschickt habe. Er war meinen ganzen Aufenthalt nicht in Tansania und auf die Frage wann er doch kommen würde gab es keine Antwort, weil niemand die Antwort wusste. Kari möchte eine Sache von den Volunteers/Interns und das ist der Geld. Er ist leider ein Geld gieriger Mann und interessiert sich nur für den Profit den er mit der NGO machen kann, damit er sein Leben finanzieren kann. Er hat nie irgendwelche Gelder für Projekte bewilligt, sodass ich selbst den Strandtag für die Waisenkinder bezahlt haben, was nicht Sinn der Sache ist. Die Volunteers und Interns bekommen Geld für ihre Arbeit in der NGO wenn Sie einen Weekly Report schreiben, jedoch überweist Kari es erst auf mehrfaches Nachfragen oder auch einfach garnicht.

Die Ausflüge die Kari anbietet sind völlig überteuert und nur Betrug. Also bucht NIEMALS Ausflüge mit der NGO!!!!!! Ich habe mitbekommen wie eine Gruppe von Interns eine Safari mit einer Übernachtung gebucht hat und der Fahrer mit 2 Stunden Verspätung kam, weil Kari ihn nicht bezahlen wollte. JA ihr lest richtig. Meine Safari hat Kari 1 Tag vorher abgesagt und er hätte mich nichtmal kontaktiert, wenn ich ihn nicht kontaktiert hätte. Er meinte, dass er mir den Betrag rückerstattet und seitdem hat er nur einmal auf meine Nachrichten reagiert und darin liest er mich wissen, dass er daran arbeitet. Meine Safari ist mittlerweile knapp 3 Wochen her und Kari antwortet mal wieder nicht auf meine Nachrichten.

Also bitte überlegt es euch zweimal, ob ihr euch wirklich auf Kari...

Kari takes your money and runs!! DO NOT TRUST THEM Exploiting interns, once you pay them and you need a refund, they will cease all communication with you and you’ll never see your money again. I paid for accommodation with Art in Tanzania for 3 months (£2,500) but my travel to Tanzania was cancelled during covid (October 2021) so unable to undertake the internship, Kari agreed to refund me. It’s now November 2022, I’ve tried to contact Kari many times and I never heard from him since, and never saw my money again. I paid via bank transfer.
