Visiting the Dr. Livingstone Memorial Museum in Ujiji is like stepping back into a powerful chapter of history. Set peacefully along the shores of Lake Tanganyika, the museum offers a moving look into the final days of Dr. David Livingstone and the legacy he left behind.

One of the highlights is a simple, life-size model that shows the famous moment when Henry Morton Stanley met Dr. Livingstone in 1871 and greeted him with the iconic words, “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” The museum also displays vivid paintings from the 19th century, telling stories of Livingstone’s efforts to fight the slave trade. A touching part of the museum honors the loyal Tanzanian guards who stood by his side, supported his journey, and helped shape his legacy.

Outside, the historic mango tree—where that legendary meeting happened—still stands. Around the area, visitors can also walk through paths once used during the slave trade and see monuments that remind us of the struggle to end it.

Guided tours help bring every story to life, making the experience even more enriching. If you’re passionate about history, culture, or Africa’s powerful past, this museum is a must-visit. It’s a truly inspiring and educational...

The visit at Dr Livingstone Museum, located at Ujiji Kigoma was smooth and worthy every penny of it. The meseum has two main parts, the first one being the mango trees where he stayed when he was sick and where he was found by Dr. Henry Stanley. The second part shows the culture of Ujiji people and how it is affected by growing Kigoma town. So the overall experience was excellent, very cheap entrance, and five stars to customer service. Special thanks to Mzee Sudi the guide, he is good...
