We would like to dedicate this review to our guide Ali for our visit to Village Green Spice Farm on October 6th, 2022.

Spice tour was a highlight of our visit in Zanzibar. There are numerous farms and agencies organizing it. We were referred to Village Green by our hotel; besides, the five star rating on Google is self-explanatory. Unlike many of the spice tours organized by others, Village Green focuses on the tour and the customer experience, instead of making quick money by forcing the visitors to buy species in the farm. As you may know, the species can be purchased at a lower price in the market of Stone Town.

We already contacted Village Green Spice Farm on WhatsApp. This was useful because they could help to book a reliable taxi, or to communicate with the taxi driver to go to the right place. Although our taxi arrived later than the 10am tour, Ali waited for us with patience and a big smile. Ali grew up in the village, he has good connections with everyone we saw in the village that day, he is knowledgeable and passionate about the species, and he speaks perfect English. During the tour, he first introduced us the common species of Zanzibar: he cut them freshly from the trees at the demo area, let us smelled and tasted some of them. In addition, we also tasted some local fruits. Next, he took us into the village, where he climbed up the trees of around 10 meters high to get nutmeg and Zanzibar apple for us. Finally, we went back to the demo area, where a colleague of Ali performed coconut tree climbing while singing, we also got delicious coconut juice to drink. In addition, Ali made fun gadgets for us with the plants during the tour. The tour lasted for about 2 hours. In the end we paid our ticket as earlier communicated, no surprises and no forcing to buy species or to pay other fees.

All in all, with Ali we learned a lot about the species of Zanzibar, had a great tour, and got many herbal/fruity gifts to bring back home with us. The value of the tour far exceeded the cost of the tickets. More importantly, the guys at Village Green Spice Farm have a reliable and trustworthy way of organizing the tours which is sustainable. We would definitely recommend Village Green Spice Farm to our family and friends who are planing to visit Zanzibar. Thank you again Ali for the wonderful tour! Review of Village Green Spice Farm, Mitakawani, Zanzibar

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Village Green Spice Farm in Mitakawani, Zanzibar, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience!

Informative Tour: The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the spices. He shared fascinating insights into the history and cultivation of various spices, making the tour both educational and engaging. Diverse Spice Collection: We were introduced to an impressive variety of spices, including cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and many more. The aromatic experience was simply delightful! Interactive Experience: The tour was interactive, allowing us to see, smell, and even taste some of the spices directly from the plants. It was a hands-on experience that truly enhanced our understanding of the spice trade. Highly Recommended: I wholeheartedly recommend the Village Green Spice Farm to anyone visiting Zanzibar. Whether you're a spice enthusiast or just curious about the local culture, this farm offers a unique glimpse into the rich agricultural heritage of the island. Overall, our visit to the Village Green Spice Farm was a highlight of our trip, and we left with a deeper appreciation for the spices that play such a vital role in the local cuisine. Don't miss out on this gem during your travels! 🌿

This was the highlight of our trip in Zanzibar. Ali works at the Village Green spice farm and gave us an amazing tour of all of the crops. The entrance fee only cost 10,000 shillings or five dollars per person. During the tour Ali walked us around the different parts of the farm showing us various spices like pepper cinnamon ginger and fruits such as watermelon avocado oranges Mandarin mango trees and passion fruit. Of course we got to try this delicious produce during the tour. We also learned about a lot of the local spices which they use for medicinal purposes. Afterwards we watched Ali’s colleague climb a coconut tree! He picked coconuts for us to enjoy. Ali is such a kind and welcoming person- his English is really spectacular and he explained everything to us. After the farm tour he invited us to visit his home village Mitakawani village also know as Green Villiage. He helped us purchase some pencils which we gave out to the local children. It was such an incredible and genuine experience and I highly recommend visiting this spice farm. They can even arrange transportation from your hotel at a fair price (that’s what we did). If you want to contact Ali please WhatsApp him +255 779 801 567 to make an appointment...

Amazing experience, highly recommend, the staff was super friendly and made our day. They were not pushing for tips or buying anything like in other places in Zanzibar.
