The Pomelo Golf Club, Old Course — party-golf polish, beginner-friendly play
Fresh off a renovation and rebrand, the former Krisada has been reborn as The Pomelo Golf Club, Old Course—and the glow-up is hard to miss. The new clubhouse is sleek and spotless, stocked with all the little niceties (free shoe-cleaning is a classy touch), and the whole operation leans into a social, slightly celebratory vibe. Case in point: the club explicitly markets two caddie services—standard and a “pretty” caddie option in cheer-squad chic uniforms. Service from both was attentive on my visit, though the look doesn’t always match the promo photos; set expectations accordingly and focus on the golf.
Out on the course, the brief is clear: easygoing fun over stern examination. Tee boxes are in decent nick with only light divots, fairways are wide, mostly flat, and forgiving, and water comes into play without feeling punitive. Green speeds are slow, which means you can often aim almost straight and roll it in—great for newer players or relaxed rounds, less thrilling if you live for double-breakers. There aren’t many doglegs or hero carries, and the overall challenge is modest. That said, the presentation is tidy, the pace is helped by plenty of halfway huts, and the whole thing excels as a place to gather, play, and hang out rather than grind.
The “party” theme extends to the ledger: a small bottle of Regency brandy runs about 390 THB, notably cheaper than many Bangkok-area courses, and it shows up at those halfway stops alongside the usual snacks. Between holes, staff keep things moving and the clubhouse feels properly premium when you duck back in—elegant without being stuffy.
Quick take
If you’re chasing night-golf vibes and group fun, Pomelo’s refresh hits the mark. If you’re chasing a stern, strategic test and 11-stimp greens, this isn’t that. It’s golf as a social sport—and it owns it.
Pros • Polished, newly renovated clubhouse with thoughtful amenities (free shoe cleaning). • Wide, welcoming fairways; friendly layout for newcomers and mixed-ability groups. • Many halfway huts and a notably budget-friendly bar (that Regency price!). • Attentive caddie service; “pretty” caddie option available if your group wants the fanfare. • Generally relaxed, social atmosphere; good for after-work or night-golf rounds.
Cons • Slow greens and few doglegs make it light on challenge for low handicaps. • Marketing images for specialty caddies can oversell the aesthetics. • Some features around the course (e.g., decorative elements) feel more show than substance.
Tips • Come for fun, not penalties: aim to enjoy the company, the lights, and the easy scoring. • If putting is your thing, hit a few extra practice rolls—slow speeds call for a firmer stroke. • Budget for snacks and a celebratory drink at the halfway huts; that’s part of Pomelo’s charm.
Bottom line: A big step up from the old days and an easy recommendation for social rounds, corporate outings, and newer golfers. Not the toughest track in town—but one of the easier...
