Canik dağları Amasyadan başlayıp Orduya kadar uzanan iç kesimlerinde Taşova , Erbaa , Niksar ovaları olan ve dünyada tek Karadeniz ikliminde Akdeniz iklimi görülen tek dağdir,bu iklim dağın iç kesiminde bulunan Erbaa ovasında görülür. Dağın denize bakan kısımlarında bölgeye hakim olan Karadeniz iklimi görülür. Toros dağları ile aynı oluşum zamanında ve aynı yerde oluşmuş zamanla Karadeniz bölgesine kadar gelmiş bir dağdır.
