We took an Uber from Entebbe (near the Botanical Gardens) to Mabamba Swamp, and we asked our Uber driver to wait for us, which he did. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Innocent. He had us sign in and then arranged our wooden canoe ride to see the Shoebill and other birds. Innocent and our boat driver worked hard to get us a good view, at a respectful distance, of the Shoebill. They did a great job navigating the narrow and sometimes shallow waterways of the swamp. Innocent was very good with bird identification as well.
We paid approximately $30 USD for the roughly 2 hour boat ride, and we tipped the boat driver $10. By arranging the transport ourselves, we saved a lot of money compared to some of the other tours. On the return from the swamp to Entebbe, we paid our driver directly, without Uber, and we decided to pay about 15,000 Ugandan Schillings more than the listed price for our trip to the swamp to account for the time he waited.
