Went for a club fitting here last week, and it was a wonderful experience.
Shortly after arriving, I was sat in the car park surrounded by expensive cars and beautiful scenery, asking myself "what am I doing here". As a mid handicapper who lacks confidence, I suddenly felt a lot of apprehension about my fitting session, and started wishing I had just gone to my local range and booked a bog-standard fitting. Knowing the kind of elite pros they usually fit here (search through YouTube if you're interested), all I could think was "I don't belong here".
Well, I needn't have worried, because from the moment I left my car, it was a wonderful experience. The setting and the course along with all of the facilities were stunning, and every single member I walked past was warm, welcoming and said hello (they probably recognised that I wasn't a member!). The team in the pro shop were also very friendly and welcoming, and were kind enough to give me a lift in a buggy down to the range seeing as I didn't know my way.
The practice facilities here are top notch, with a really nice driving range with free balls, tees and alignment sticks, and a lovely short game facility outside with bunkers and greens. Being able to warm up on the range and get my bad shots out of the way without anyone watching was very comforting. The fitting bays are up there with the best, fully kitted out with walls full of shafts and heads, and trackman equipment too. It's no wonder Mizuno chose this as their performance centre, and why so many pros come here to be fitted.
Luke, my fitter, was superb. He made me feel at ease straight away and was a great guy to talk to about my game. He really knew his stuff, and whilst he let me lead the session in terms of what I felt most comfortable with, he supported every decision with data and his expertise, and was able to direct me to the right set up with time to spare. We ended up with a head that I didn't think I would be 'good' enough for, but thanks to Luke's experience and support, he directed me down a different route to what I imagines and made sure I didn't end up with something that wouldn't benefit my game and give me room for improvement. There was also no pressure to purchase, and Luke followed up after the session with an email containing the specs we had agreed on. I should also note that the price I paid for the clubs was in-line with the going rate at most online retailers, so there was no sharp mark-up like with some golf shops.
If I am being really critical, it would have been nice to have had a little more visibility of the data from my shots, but Luke was happy to let me take a look when I asked, and he talked me through what he was seeing as every stage of the process to help me come to the right decision.
All-in-all, I am so glad I booked my fitting session here. Yes, I probably still don't belong there, but I won't get too many opportunities to experience the facilities and customer service of a private members club, let alone one that is trusted by some of the best golfers on the planet, so I would strongly recommend to anyone else considering it to just go for it. You won't regret it, and it is well worth the fitting fee.

Bearwood Lakes was the venue for a seminar run by Woodwhites accounts and Pro-actions business coaching and support at the end of Feburary. The room was like and well ventilated, the only distraction was the view outside! Teas, coffee and biscuits were served when required and kept topped up.
After the morning seminar we had a drink and sandwich in the club lounge. The lady taking the order asked in I wanted my brie and bacon sandwish toasted, as this would melt the cheese and make it much better!. When we had finished we were deep in conversation and it wasn't easy to clear the coffee table in front of us. Instead of barging through, the lady took the trouble of entering from the terrace so she could reach the otherside to clear. How kind and thoughtful.
As we left, we got an immediate call-out because my colleague had left her scarf on the chair.
We asked for the manager and gave direct feedback on our very positive experience, but I want anyone who is thinking of using this venue to know that it is way more than a great location, it is managed and staffed by...
