After losing our two dogs within 3 days of each other, we decided to get a puppy to fill the void on our lives. Previously all our dogs had been rescue dogs, and as me and my husband are both active in animal rescue, we were very dubious about approaching a commercial kennels, but all my worries were put aside as soon as I stepped in. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who told us that we would have full access to all areas of the kennels. She accompanied us to the 'beagle' pen (as we were looking for a beagle), but told us to just wander where we wanted. We were not followed, we were not directed, we were able to inspect the kennels and the puppies at our leisure. The kennels were spotless and the puppies were obviously well cared for. We fell I love with a little beagle boy and spent at least 20 minutes getting to know him before we made our decision to take him home. We were instructed that we had to take him to our vets within 48 hours to ensure they puppy had a full health check (otherwise they will checkup on you). They also ask that if, in future you cannot look after the puppy then you return it to them. We took Bert home and he had a full health check the following day at our vets ... who said he was just 'perfect'. 4 months on Bert is still 'perfect'. He is the most well adjusted and friendliest puppy in the world and we love him to bits. I would strongly recommend that anyone looking for a puppy consider Douglas Hall... they are caring professionals and the puppies that they breed are well cared for and very healthy and the after care is very much appreciated.p

From first contact via telephone it just felt right. Friendly, helpful and zero pressure. We arrived the next day with no appointment and we were greeted, directed to the puppies and left to meet, greet, handle and fall in love with our future best friend. Always on hand to answer questions but zero pressure to purchase and lots of honest answers given in terms of typical temperaments, size etc. We fell in love with our Holly and put a holding deposit on her with the plan to collect her the following weekend. After driving home without her we couldn't wait any longer and turned up unannounced the next morning to bring her home. No issues at all and welcomed in as much as we were the day before. Holly was checked by our vet with 48 hours and was deemed to be a very healthy and happy pup. We also received a call from DHK to see how she was settling in and i wouldnt hesitate to contact again if we needed any help or guidance with our pup. It is clear to see that finding the perfect and forever home for their pups is top of their list. She is everything we were looking for and more. Extremely friendly, playful and cheeky but loves nothing more than a cuddle before bed. If we were to add to the family again (never say never) I know where I will be going. Thank you so much DHK xx

DO NOT BUY A PUPPY FROM HERE, WE BOUGHT A PUPPY IN FEB 2016 WITHIN A MONTH OUR POOR PUPPY WAS SERIOUSLY ILL HAVING BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A, CONGENITAL PORTYSTEMIC LIVER SHUNT (IE. HE WAS BORN WITH IT) IF YOU LOOK UP THIS CONDITION IT MEANS IT WAS PASSED ON BY A PARENT WE CONTACTED DH AND WAS GIVEN OUR MONEY BACK BUT THEY DIDN'T WANT HIM BACK NOT THAT I WOULD OF BE COMFORTABLE WITH THAT BUT THEY DID SAY THEY WOULD HELP US WITH VET BILLS. SIXTEEN MONTHS AND 3 MAJOR LIVER SURGERIES IT TOOK TO GET OUR PUPPY CURED NEVER MIND THE HEARTACHE STRESS AND ROLLERCOASTER OF EMERGENCY DASHES TO VETS WHEN I CONTACTED DH THEY DON'T WANT TO KNOW THEY REFUSE TO TELL US WHERE HE HAS COME FROM EVEN THOUGH WE GAVE HIM AS HE REQUESTED HIS CHIP NUMBER . WHAT HAS HE GOT TO HIDE THE FACT THAT THEY GET PUPS FROM PUPPY FARMS AND ILLEGALLY REMOVE THE TAGS, IN THE LANCASHIRE TELEGRAPH THEY ADMITTED THAT THEY DON'T TELL PEOPLE WHERE THEY COME FROM BECAUSE PEOPLE WON'T LIKE IT. PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PUPPY FARMED FACILITY.

FURTHER TO YOUR REPLY. AND DISGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Mr Lancaster get your facts right look up CONGENITAL PORTYSTEMIC LIVER SHUNT you really don't understand the condition the clue is in the word CONGENITAL, stop brushing it off as nature you sell people puppy farmed pups you have NO vetinary qualifications, we were advised never to mate him as the condition would be passed on to any of his pups (not that we would ever breed with any of our dogs) also lack of nourishment and poor health from the mother can have an affect on litters i would trust my (3) different vets advice over anyhing you say as it takes a long time to train to be a vet.

REPLY TO A RUDE OWNER still refusing to reveal his so called licensed breeder

Grow up Lancaster!!!! I only write honest reviews of my dealings with your pet shop. Your bullying towards me will only make me carry on raising awareness that your kennels are not what you make them out to be. You buy your puppies from an unknown source that you will not reveal to customers because your ashamed of what you are doing , it is WRONG. Once you have sold your puppies you really do not care what happens to these pups you dodge responsibility for any sick or even worse dead pups that your customers have bought , i do not deny that you will refund the cost of pups that have been diagnosed with serious illness or have died but thats where the buck stops offers of help with vet fees will depend on those customers that use your vets that you request and carry on using the same insurance company that your kennels give with 4weeks free insurance, anyone who dares to use their own personal choice of vets and insurance woe betide them you refuse anymore help and you go back on your offer of help towards vet fees what naughty customers are we!

Then theres the good customer after care service that you apply to customers who have crossed your path and used their own vets etc as i previously mentioned. You then have the audacity to deny any knowledge of them being a customer and or being on your database when they dare to post any review on google or any other review sites, its a good job we keep all paperwork to prove we are valid customers.

As for the family who bought a puppy from yourselves that sadly died within days of purchase, you tried to blame them by saying it was stress and a reaction to vaccinations. What pet shop turns it round on customers, that is disgusting! just carry on dissing customers who dare to give honest reviews you are just showing people exactly what you do to the customers who cross you. I am not afraid of you and each time you come back and disrespect and are rude to me and what i have to say will do...

We visited rather late last week and were welcomed at the gate, we thought the facilities for the puppies were excellent, underfloor heating and a clear cleaning schedule as well as freedom for the puppies who had there full vaccines. In comparison to other places we had been this was fantastic. We were there sometime as we had wanted a certain breed from somewhere else but we had missed out. There was a young lady who met us and talked about her experience of the breeds and the level of care they would need. She was easy going and there was no sense of pressure or inconvenience as we'd experienced elsewhere. I think her partner 'Will' joined us 20 minutes later , he too gave us some opinions and both told us that we should be sure. We'd finally decided that the Scottish Terrier we had instantly fallen for ,nearly an hour early, was right for us but we're still not sure if we were ready to make the commitment. It's a big life change! We were encouraged to take her chip number and sleep on it, they said they prefer to make the right match, we believe them. We returned late the next day and bought her, it was quick and painless, she came with food and we were made to feel like we were joining a club, even other buyers were excited for us. We were even assured by our vet that one of her staff go up once a week to do regular checks on the place and pets and that they are happy with Douglas Hall, MyVet, I asked her if the puppies she had seen from here were of good health, she said she had yet to hear or see any issue. We have seen many other places that sell dogs in Manchester and this place is on another level. I also see that many of the negative comments posted are about breeds or dogs temperaments, let me say, if you get a mixed breed you cannot guarantee the personality or genetic traits as these are new breeds not bred for 100s of years like the full pedigrees. Also if you choose the small quiet puppy that hides behind its litter mates do not expect to have a big personality at home, this will take time, training and confidence. These are not reasons to complain about the kennel, research and understand before you buy. The guys here would happily explain...

I’ve put off on writing this review until we’d had our pup for a couple of months to make sure there were no issues further down the line and I’m happy to say there hasn’t been. We visited Douglas Hall Kennels too look at the pubs with the view to getting one at some point. There were a large selection of breeds available all in clean pens all sharing with other pups, but in no way crowded environments. All seemed very happy, despite a couple of breeds being a bit nervous which I suppose is to be expected. I’ve always loved beagles and when we saw them one ran to me and I instantly fell in love, picked her up and decided she was coming home with us. We paid £1750 and had to pay £100 to secure her. We were made aware though that this was refundable if we changed our mind, but we obviously didn’t and returned the following day to pick her up. I forget the exact details now, but we had a period, I believe it was six weeks were if things didn’t work out we could return her and get our money back, minus a £30 charge for the chip registering.

Our Beagle Belle settled very quickly with no issues. She is a beautiful healthy dog who is lovely natured and very intelligent, which suggests to me that she comes from good stock. Although we saw her mother, only by change, it did seem a shame that she had already been separated from her mum, but I suppose that made the settling in period easier. I was a bit put off prior to visiting as these dogs are bred to sell, but on visiting you realise it’s done in a humane environment by people who clearly love animals.

The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I don’t suppose these dogs have the same amount of nurture in their early days as there might get from a breeder who only has one littler to contend with, but this doesn’t seem to have effected our pup...
