Arrived late by 3 mins (our bad) after which the remainder of the "tour" lasted approximately 5 more minutes. It was cold but that's no excuse when we had paid extra for the tour to be guided. "Tutored tasting" consisted of a slideshow about the business - relatively interesting but not really about wine at all. In fact the presenter didn't seem to know much about wine and couldn't answer some of the questions asked (e.g. what temperature to keep their white wine at). His wife (we think) came and asked for our ID after the tasting had already started and was really quite rude about it (we are all 23 or older), then proceeded to pour smaller glasses for us than the rest of the guests which felt very discriminatory. Red was served cold because the warm bottle hadn't been opened yet and they presumably wanted to save money. One glass was used for both red and white which was poor. Similar tastings by other companies e.g. Pieroth have been much more informative, enjoyable and professional. The whole experience was quite rushed, they seemed more interested in making money than delivering a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stopped off at Kerry Vale Vineyard on the way back from Montgomery at the suggestion of the really nice post mistress there. Being on the English side of the border, the cafe/restaurant loos were open.
BUT, once there, and finding them very well organised for lockdown living, we ordered some food and hot drinks and settled down to enjoy them.
So, I got interested in the wine and to cut a long story short, we bought two whites and a red and brought them home. The wine is really excellent and when we're back in Shropshire again we'll make sure we stop off there. They do all sorts of activities and tours and have space for conferences and entertaining, all overlooking the vineyard.
There's a good online shop and the Shropshire Lady is so nice that I'd happily order a case of that. The Castle Hotel in Bishop's Castle has this wine on their wine list, so we tried it and it is one of the best white wines I've had in years. Visit and buy some wine, you won't be...
Read moreMy wife and I made a pre planned stop here for some lunch and a break in our journey from South Wales to North Wales. Well worth it, not a big cafe and wasn't overly busy when we stopped fortunately. Very clean and maintained cafe, excellent service from the staff who were very polite and helpful. I ordered a ham & tomato sandwich, which came accompanied with a small salad and some crisps. My wife ordered a cheese quiche, accompanied with a salad (see pictures). My wife ordered a regular hot chocolate, had 2 in fact and I ordered a glass of their local red wine, which was very nice not a full body wine. Actually bought a bottle to take away with us for £20. They also do a nice looking afternoon tea, which has to be ordered 48 hrs in advance. Would certainly recommend the food, service...
